Found a new Site that makes finding movies, songs, etc. really easy and fast. I think it's better than Kazaa.

nano, what do you mean kazaa is spyware. What are they checking? I haven't really given time to check around about it. I use Music City Morpheus which is basically just Kazaa rebadged.

Yes and no ... you have the option to not install the spyware. There is software that has to be installed so the ads will work, but it is my understanding that the software is only used when you are using Kazaa. So if you're just surfing around with your browser, it doesn't keep track of the places you go.

Oh yea, install zone alarm and then see when those spyware things activate, by the way i recomend it for all and you can block gator from contacting the net, that's what i did.

Try that TopText on for size. Every time you hit a web page(even when kazaa isnt running), it sends the url and the entire text of the age to toptext hq. Then it adds advertising to the page in the form of ugly yellow links.

Yes, alternative to GATOR, is ROBOFORM, it is pretty good I like it. It is not really alternative, i mean it does not have coupons or price match or such, but it stores passwords and fills out forms. More over you can transfer all your Gator info into roboform.
The site is:

In my original post, I stated: you have the option to not install the spyware (i.e., TopText, NewNet, and whatever else comes with it).
The only thing that's not optional is Cydoor, as that is used to deliver the ads in the program.

Although you uncheck those install third party software options it still installs it, install adaware that should show you what those programs are hiding from you.
I created a thread in the suckage non suckage forum on spyware

Even if you have a firewall if the spyware works through your browser the firewall won't pick it out will it? I had all this spyware on my system and zonealarm never detected their usage.
Also, is realplayer spyware? It keeps trying to access the internet once in awhile by itself for no apparent reason.

No, those programs during the install require you to manually uncheck the boxes rather than check them. This is opt-out versus opt-in. I consider it the same as having them installed and having to uninstall them yourself.
But differently: They do give you the choice, but they always give you the choice - you can always uninstall softare. As long as you have to do something to indicate that you want these programs installed, its cool. If you have to do something to indicate that you dont, then it is a really dirty trick. Most people will just press next over and over again anyway.

I have AdAware (5.5) and ZoneAlarm installed on my computer, and 1) no programs is "calling home" and 2) the only spyware AdAware picks up is Cydoor, which (as I have mentioned twice before) is integrated with Kazaa to deliver those darn banner ads.
I agree with what Twiggy said about opt-out v. opt-in, but what can you do? I want my MP3s, videos, software, etc. for free. :D

Well, here is an idea:
If you are so disturbed about Kazaa and the spyware it uses, why not use Morpheus instead? They are basically the same software, use the same network, but Morpheus is spyware-free!

bugaboo, I like roboform, and it works perfect for me. Check out their help to see how you can transfer your Gator info into the robotom. And by the way roboform is attached to your web browser and is not located on the taskbar.

I've been using WinMX for a few days now and I think its great. I've used IMesh and AIMster and they're nothing compared to WinMX. Great program.

Soon, I will delete Gator, I have come to hate Gator with their spyware. If anyone is curious, check this link about Gator http://www.cexx.org/gator.htm

Putting the hostnames of any site you don't want to contact
into your hosts file will block them.. just put the ip as localhost 127.0.0.1
