ok so i got the hp 9900ci on the deals page a while ago and it finally came, but the dvd playback is terrible and the cd burning is sketchy. first, im running an ibm 500mhz k6-2 w/256mb ram, a few free gigs and running win2k . the dvd playback is unsmooth, with the biggest problem being the sound being just a bit off. the sound is also staticy, but i think that might be my sound card b/c it likes to do that when my computers working. its using cyberlink powerdvd and interactual to play, and ive tried closing all programs running in the background, except norton. ive enabled dma mode and changed the resolution from true color to high color per the recommended settings, all to no avail.
as for the cd burning, it comes with its own software which seems pretty good, but it doesnt necessarily let me burn all of my mp3s, ones that i could using nero. for some reason nero is not recgonizing the new drive and therefore i cant use it. sorry for the book, any help is greatly appreciated.

OKIIEEEE. . . first your dvd problem. This is gonna hurt but its the truth, its your proc. too slow for software, especially since its an AMD K6, I have yet to see a K6 run smooth dvd playback with software playback. Also what video card do you have? Anyhoo, you got two choices to make the dvd play back better. 1. upgrade. . . 2. get a mpeg decoder card. I personally like #2 since all you gotta do is but $50 (or less not sure exact pricing lately) card and you're set. The card I highly recommend is the Hollywood+ decoder card. Nothing else out there beats it especially since its got a nice digitial coaxial output for audio.

Now the burner problem. . . by all means use nero, but you gotta get it working right? Most likely your problem is that the aspi files are missing 'cause its wintookay ye be using. So you gotta take care of that problem and you should be in burning heaven (err hell I guess?).
