importing messages from older outlook express

well.. i make back ups for a reason!

and.. now i want my old messages back.. i have the 5.0 dbx files and the 4.0 imx files...

i open up outlook 5.5 ... click on import...
go through the wizard, but end up with an error message"
"there are no email files to import..."

so.. i had a backup of july 7, 2001 .. using IE 5.5 ... what I did was move the current DBX files to a new directory.. copy the old ones in with the folder.dbx .. loaded it...

and saved all the emails to my hard drive.....


and then did the same to the new emails...

so.. what I am going to do.. is save all the emails to my HD and burn those to a cd...

BUT.. i can't access them..

the oldest ones are from outlook 4.01 ... and the last ones I can't access are from IE 5.01


any suggestions??

should I upgrade to outlook 6.0 and try?

I seem to remember something about the folder your old mail is in needs to be named "mail".

Search the MS Knowlege Base and also try www.pcworld.com
