yup school starts in 2 days for me. At least it's my last semester and I'll be in the cozy boot camps of the army early next year. sucks to be all of you!!!

Cozy and bootcamp? I dont think those two words belong in the same sentence...although if it is OTS, it (supposedly) isnt quite as bad. I have a friend who went through it all and said it was a breeze, but then again we have always wondered about him.

Are you doing your compulsory service for the Korean Army or enlisting in the US Army to actually make some money? Or KTUSA?

hehe...I was just being extremely sarcastic ufcrusher...
and speedracer120, yes I am doing the manditory military service as required by all Korean males. But I applied for a position serving for the America Army stationed in Korea as a KATUSA officer. It is supposedly much easier than the actual Korean army(I get to leave the base during evenings and get to go home on weekends). They pick randomly from the applicants so I'm not sure if I'm in until the November when the results are reported. Wish me luck.

First, good luck. :)
Second, huh? I'm confuzzled. lol Okay, I'm guessing that you are Korean, but living in the US for school or some such, and not an American citizen. Is that all correct? lol Just making sure. :) I didn't realize that Korea still (or ever did for that matter, but it makes sense) had a law requiring all males join the military...

yup sucks to be Korean huh? I believe it's the same for Taiwan at the moment. Every healthy Korean male is required to spend 26 months in the military. You can apply to serve in other divisions (Navy, AirForce, Marines, etc.), but each have their pros and cons and usually there's more competition for the supposedly "easier" ways out. I decided to utilize my English skills and applied for a position in the American Army bases stationed in Korea. It's one of the most "humane" options and there's a lot of competition, but I figured I had a pretty good chance since I go to school in the States and have a bit of English background. Luck is still a big factor since there is a bit of randomness in the way they pick among the applicants, but an English background helps a little nonetheless.
The relations between North and South Korea are ever so slowly ameliorating so it shouldn't be eternity until the military duty becomes either extremely short or even voluntary. Even now the serving period is slowly shortening. About 10 years ago, it was about 3 years(now it's 2yrs 2mo).

What sucks the most about the compulsory service is that people who were born in the States to Korean citizens have been known to be nabbed at the airport and dragged straight into boot camp.
That's what I'm worried about now. I'm a naturalized citizen, but they might drag me kicking.

Heck, I would love to graduate a semester early. Unfortunatley, I had to choose a major which, unless I had tons of AP credits, requires me to stay the whole 4 years. :P

Hey! who said I'm graduating early!! :P It's my 4.5th year now. LOL!! I'm just glad it won't be 5(who knows??). I was planning to double major, but the second major didn't work out and I'm stuck for another semester even though I didn't have to... bad planning at it's worst!!

Oh yeah! when I was in Rochester NY and saw snow fall for the first time, I was so excited! I thought it was sooo cool. That feeling lasted about 20 minutes. After that, I had to introduce myself to a snow brush and ice scrapper.
