hey all,...

some quick questions :

- is there any quick ways for me to check just what a wall is made of short of punching a hole through it?

- any suggestions what i can check to see if i can boost the signal on my wireless network without buying any additional equipment.

i ask these questions, b/c i just set up a wireless network and the signal is really weak just a couple rooms down. i've got a d-link 713p using linksys wpc11 units.

any help would be greatly appreciated! thanks in advance!

- B

1. umm kinda. they do sell "Stud" finders, it'll tell you if theres a solid object running through your wall at the selected location.
2. i'm sure there are ways but none that i know of without buying anything additional

Well, you'll likely have to buy something to boost the signal. Most WAP mfrs sell external and/or replacement antennas to extend the range of the WAP. Unless one falls off of a truck in front of you, you'll have to buy it.

One thing to keep in mind with 802.11b - the signal runs at 2.4Ghz - the same 2.4Ghz that some cordless phones use. If you have a 2.4Ghz cordless, it'll really screw up your connection when you're yakking on the phone.
