Sometimes it get's my mind off even more horrible things such as studying for finals or writing papers, but generally it's major suckage. I live by myself, so I don't have anybody to help me. Should I invest in a dishwasher??
Just curious: to the GUYS who are married or live with a significant other (excluding those who live with "roommates"), how often do you do it??

*Boom* Dude, the dishes are done! - Sorry couldnt resist even thought that proves that I saw a very dumb movie.
As for the dishwasher, it all depends on a couple of things. First off, if you live in an apartment that you rent, installing a dishwasher can be considered a fixture and you might have to leave it there as it becomes part of the apartment. (Gotta love landlord tenant law) A fixture is determined by its permanent nature, whether it is something that is usually taken with the tenant, how much damage it would cause to install and remove, etc. While a washing machine and dryer are NEVER considered a fixture, a dishwasher would probably fall into that category. Now depending on your landlord, you could arrange for a credit for the purchase price or permission to remove it. Alternatively, you could install it in such a way that you could easily remove it and not cause damage, but that would probably be difficult.
Second, fundage for the purchase price plus the increase in water use and electricity. (But that is kind of obvious)
Third, if you are living by yourself you probably wont fill it up for close to a week, as such you would have to rinse your dishes before you put them in so you dont attract little critters.
Hope that helps,

I don't mind washing my dishes at all. As I am cooking, I generally try to wash my pots/pans/bowls/knives/etc as I go so as to not be stuck with everything at the end. I have one of those nifty soap sponge wand thingys, one of those scrubber brush thingys, a scouring pad or two, and a drying rack. I have a dishwasher, but I rarely use it. My water bill is included in my rent, so I figure that I can save money on electricity by doing the dishes myself. A dishwasher can use a lot of electricity because it must heat the water inside.

Well, water and electricity are all included in my rent(WOW!! And I even live in California!! a rare case nowadays...), so a dishwasher wouldn't be too bad for me, but considering I'm moving out in about 5 months, I guess it would be a lot of trouble to have one installed... And it would only make me lazier. I need a little manual labor once in a while to keep my ass on the edge.
and about my question Dark, LOL, I was refering to "the dishes"....:D

They do make smaller, dishwashers that don't get "installed" They are on wheels (for portablility) and connect to the faucet. This way it wouldn't be a fixture and the landlord wouldn't have a say.
They also have cheesy counter top washers but, I don't know about them. They don't look very powerful

i do the dishes all the time.. i also cook, vacuum (oohh.. i love vacuuming. this marriage thing is worth the sweet-ass hoover we got at the shower!), clean the litter box and the bathroom, and do the laundry.
never understood the mentality that mom was the only one capable of doing household chores. i knew lots of kids like that growing up, and when they got to college they couldn't even handle making themselves a grilled cheese sammich.
but on the whole, doing the dishes does suck. we used to get handed months of it as a time as punishment when we were kids. i think my sister who's 27 now should still technically be doing dishes from punishments when she was 16. i think that's the only reason she moved out. :)

Wow...I always thought you were a guy, Ironchef... :P Actually, my wife and I pretty much split doing the dishes; whoever cooks doesn't do them. When I was single and living with other guys, I always ended up doing most of the dishes because no one else minded mold on their food :puke:
