Windows Media player wont work

My windows player wont work!!! I was in the process of updating it, but the setup program told me that the update failed and that i should restart my comp. When I did, it no longer worked. I have some .asf files that I can no longer play. I've tried to uninstall then reinstall it, but when I look in the add/remove programs, it isn't there. Can anyone please help me??? or at least tell me of another player that can play .asf??? Thanx a lot.

What OS are you using? Did you have any anti-virus software running when you tried to install Media Player?

sorry about the lack of info. i have ME and i do have norton antivirus, which runs in the background.

run windows update, see if it picks up that it isn't installed correctly.

otherwise, run a restore back to a point where it was working correctly.
