Hey alls,

Need some help. My system freezes randomly and froze twice before I could post this message up. I've gotten varied use time from as lil as 10 minutes to as long as overnight 8 hours before it freezes.

Anyhow, My system specs

A tyan KT133A board running an amd 1.2tbird cpu
512ram
nvidia 64mb geforce2 mx 200
win2k
...

At first I was thinking if heat issue was a problem.
I have a 300watt power supply plus two case fans (one blowing out from the back, one blowing in from the front bottom)
My hardware monitor shows an average temperature at around 38-40 degrees celsius. I sometimes get crashes at 35degrees. Im thinking my monitor is off but when i feel the heatsink it feels fine.

The funny thing is, my GeForce2 card is pretty hot. But I read around, that others have their cards kinda hot but it works fine. I found out something weird though, the sound on my system continues to play even though the system froze. (eg, playing game, playing mp3s)
Is it the video card? I cant do anything after the freeze (jamming keyboard moving mouse does nothing) All i can do is hit the reset button.

This is getting a bit annoying since the freezes are so random. I cant even monitor the temp and shut down or save in time before it freezes.

Is there anything that might be causing these sporadic freezes? Any info would be great! Thanks

Have you tried to update the BOIS for your motherboard? I have a different Tyan board, but that seemed to help me a lot.....much more stable after that.

When you say the sound continues to play do you mean like if winamp is going the song will finish or that it will skip forever. Also, have you noticed anything to link the lockups together. For example do they only occure when you are connected to the internet?

The mp3 continues playing till the end of the song. It does not continue to play the next song and just stops. These past two days my internet service has been down so i'm not too sure if its anything to do with it.

The last time I flashed my BIOS it messed up even though it was the correct BIOS. I dont want to flash my BIOS till it is the last mean (I want to make sure I can return the board if the bios is messed up)

I posted this same post in the hardware section and someone responded saying if my hardware are sharing IRQ. I am running win2k and I thought it would resolve any irq conflicting problems. I checked and found that my network card, soundcard and video card all run on irq11, but they all work. Could that be the problem? If so how do I change the irq's, win2k isnt letting me change it.

thanks.
