View Full Version : Looking for best online computer hardware store

I'm about to build myself a new computer and am looking for the best online computer hardware store on the Web. So far I've found Newegg.com and they seem to have the best overall prices, shipping and customer service (from what I've read on resellerratings.com). I'm pretty much ready to buy from them, though I'd prefer to buy from a site that is based outside of my state, California, because I'm really looking to avoid paying the state tax which will be added to the final cost of my machine.
Has anyone found a comparable Web store that is outside of California which they've had a (very) good experience with?
Thank you very much!

The problem I've found with PriceWatch and even PriceGrabber is that although the prices may be the lowest, you'll most like end up making up for it with (outrageous) shipping costs (and most likely end up paying even more than at reasonably priced sites).
Thanks for the suggestion though.
That's the whole thing though, you have to look thru the pricewatch matchigns to try to find the cheapest cost/shipping. It really IS the best site to use. If you want a site that is just a SHOP then I think many will agree with me that http://www.newegg.com is one of the best sites out there in terms of prices and reliability.

I found various companies on pricegrabber that had low shipping rates as well as low prices. One was nxgen.com (nextgeneration). I do not shop at newegg.com, so I do not know if all of their products are cheaper but I do know that some of them are cheaper than newegg.com. Nxgen is based in NY, however I did purchase from them last month and my experience with them hasn't been too great.
I did find other companies, such as 2kcomputing.com, a2zcomp.com, etc... From the ratings, I do not call them reliable but there are some that said they did good. I personally did not purchase from them, but I did purchase do my purchasing with a company called winazon.com that was based in California. When I first looked at their site, it was hardly updated at all. The only link working was the hard drive but their prices were pretty good so I bought from them anyway. And they did come through, pretty fast too.
Pricegrabber is much easier to navigate than pricewatch though, but now that pricegrabber has that rating system, its pretty kewl.
Oh yea, one more company, googlegear.com, they are pretty good too.
http://www.newegg.com they have the best all-around prices the only draw back is the shipping charges are in plain view but no matter how much you buy you don't get a discount on shipping. Even with no discount in volume shipping they still have the best prices with no hidden charges that I ever witnessed. I have bought cases, speakers, hard drives, DVD Roms, CD Roms, Video Cards, Sound Cards, etc. from them without a problem one. Quick on shipping also. The last order I made was two weeks ago last Sunday night and got the parts that following Wednesday morning and this is from California to Alabama in three business days. Let me just say the Hercules Theatre XP sound card is excellent setup beats the hell out of my SoundBlaster Live Platinum 5.1, and I also got a Radeon SE 64Meg DDR VIVO card from them also.

I really like www.allstarshop.com and www.googlegear.com for cpus, cases, motherboards. Googlegear has especially good prices on cpus.
