ok, now since i've moved back home with the 'rents, i have to commute into chicago everyday. a simple 30 min drive balloons up to 1 & 1/2 to 2 hours. i've noticed that morning drivers are way worse drivers than evening drivers. i suppose the rush hour home has more relaxed people and not people late to work driving like a maniac.

...see i like to drive with approx. 2 car lengths ahead of me (more comfortable like that), but it seems i get cut off all the time. i've only been commuting for a week and a 1/2 now, but i just wanna pull out a sawed off shotgun and shoot some @sshole's tires! any anti-road rage suggestions?

any commuter stories/testimonies?

I never learned what advantage is gained when a shotgun barrel is sawed off. Does it make to bullets go faster or something? :|

haven't you played max payne yet???

from my understanding...with a sawed off shotgun, you can hide it in the arm of a coat...really just for hiding the gun

The shot spreads out faster when the barrel is shorter. Just makes it easier to hit stuff.

So why don't manufactuers just make the barrel like 2 inches long?

i dont live in chicago or ne thing g222leav, but out here in ca mass transit isnt that bad. Its probably better there. Ever consider train... im sure if you buy one of those passes for like 6 months... in the long run itll be cheaper than gas and you dont have to worry bout drivin. You can take a nap or do work. Itll reduce pollution and you can help the environment :) just a suggestion though.

yea, i've considered it...

there's METRA the suburban transit, which i'll have take into the city, and then i have to transfer to the CTA to get to school. fortunatly, my school (UIC) raised our tuitions by a grand so that we all have a U-PASS, unlimited rides on the CTA (city transit) and at any day. but i already paid for a parking permit. problem is, parents are buying a new home (reason for moving back) and that will increase the commute a bit as well, there's no nearby transit so that's why i have to commute.

i've always wondered about other areas of the country and how bad the commute is. here, a distance of 10 miles can take about to an hour at 5 p.m.

I gave up on this a while ago - just let them cut you off. The only option is to be a tailgater yourself - which is very unsafe, and potentially expen$ive. I'd rather have a tailgater in front of me than behind - at least it won't be YOU that they hit. It may take a couple extra minutes, but at least you'll get to where you're going in one piece.

Not to mention that the aim would be horribly dangerous. You'd probably end up shooting your own car.

i has a guy in a big truck do that to me once - luckily there was a shoulder - he finally looks over to see me "passing him on the shoulder" and has a fit of swearing and bird-flipping. i won't say he deserved to die, but i woulda kicked him til he bled given half a chance.

oh, and as for commuting in chicago - what the heck suburb do you live in? just take the metra. you can sit back and read a book instead of worrying about death- it'll add years to your life. and you save on parking. it's not as good as the pub transport in CA, but it's better than driving with all the other a-holes.

well, just sell off your parking permit...where I went to school, those things were always in HIGH demand.
drive to the closest metra station (usually have parking lots, no?) and yeah, just do the public transportation thing...especially when it's FREE!!! (well, not free, but you have to pay for it anyways)

When I rule the world we will hunt them down and kill them all. Or if Rev. Evil beats me to it, can I have the job of Minister of Transportation so I can still hunt them all down?

i live in an area where one day, driving the two miles to my apartment can take up to 45 minutes, and on others, it can take the proper 5-10. totally ridiculous. i wish i had a friggin tank sometimes.

but i rarely drive, and instead rely on the wonderful mass transit in DC/northern VA. if it's taking you an hour, hour and half to battle your way in, i'd opt for a bus or train. buses are usually smellier and scarier than trains, but usually you can sit, read your book, on some you can sip your coffee.. and you can conspiratorily shake your heads at the traffic with the other passengers.. :)

and, if you do take pub transport, you MUST invest in a set of earphones AND bury your nose and a book. that wards off all but the craziest of the crazies.

if you can, you should also develop a facial tic...

oh, and learn to spit well.. and perhaps carry a bike handlebar in your bag. that usually gives you a little more room on the bus.

i am sooo happy today was my last day working in the 'burbs. next week i start school, & i can take the path train and a bus to (fyi, i can drive there in 15 minutes w/ no traffic, by public transport it will take 40, but i'd rather take the train, it is much more relaxing ;) ) and, i going to TRY to get a waitressing job at a new restaurant in my neighborhood, so then i don't have to drive so much anymore. YEHA, cause i'm sick of driving. i love the train!
