I found a monitor at Bestbuy.com for $50. It wasn't the bestest monitor, but one just the same.
It was a 15 inch E machine monitor... will look for it.
I'm glad you guys approved of my deal :D

Wouldn't the MC EXCLUSIVES coupon code get you $21.70 off the price?
When I entered the coupon code it didn't deduct from the price. I canceled it and tried it with the MC EXCLUSIVES code instead, same difference.
Do they deduct the coupon after processing or am I just screwed?

it is an emachine...

ya, looks like an e-machine. But e-machines are just right for a lot of people. My aunt's been looking for a cheap PC. I set her up with this deal. I thinks she'll be really happy. She's been useing a 486...
You're right, emachines are great for most of the computer-user population. Children, grandparents, and most females only use word processing and Internet surfing. So for less than $200 you can get them a very good machine for their needs, and it's great because it has DVD on it too.
MC EXCLUSIVES code won't work, as it is a Geek Special, and you can't use that code on specials.
The email I got said this was a limited time offer, so I'm not even sure when it ends...
Would you help me to decide if this would make an alright machine for my wife's sister. She's in a graphic arts program in high school, and the poorgirl doesn't even have a computer at home like every other one of her classmates. = (
I have a 3d card I can add, as well as extra RAM. Even an extra 5400 rpm 20 gig harddrive. And of course an OS isn't hard to come by.
Think it would get her by?
What else might she need? Essential. besides the moniter of course.
I 'd appreciate your opinions

If it's really an emachine, I have heard that they only put in 100-120 watt power supplies, so upgrading without changing the power supply may be futile. Plus, are extra bays even available to add extra hardware?

The machine is not very upgradeable. Many of the people here are addicted to squeezing every last bit of speed and power out of a machine. These machines aren't going to do much better than they alreadt are. Add some memory and a biger hard drive and that's about as much as you are going to get. Might be able to upgrade the processor, but that depends on th MB.
It is a good deal.

Will this Mother Board (Intel 810 Chipset microATX Motherboard) support a CPU upgrade to Intel Pentium III 866/256/133 Socket 370 FCPGA CPU processor?

Sheesh, chill out a little. :heh:
Depending on when you called/emailed/talked to them, it's been less than two business days for their business . They did use 'consistently', which means nothing definite. Furthermore they could very well mean that their next projected shipment of stock is in two (business) days. It might just take a little bit of time to re-label/package/etc and send it out to you.
Just be thankful that you're not dealing with Staples... :)

They are running a little behind, but they said that tomorrow(9-6-01) they will be shipping out all the orders from last week. So, depending on where you are located, you should receive the system sometime this week, or beginning of next week.

I thought about this but got a system from Dell instead. But eMachines are GREAT! I've had a emachine 433 for the last 2 years. Other than a CPU Fan problem (which I bitched about, they wanted the entire unit returned to them, I bitched more, and they just sent me the fan) it has been perfect. But you are right, not expandable. I added a 2nd HD but I "hacked" the case by creating an expansion spot next to the existing HD. All in all, the hack cost me about 50 cents plus the drive. So I've been VERY happy with that emachine but be warned, it isn't a gamer machine and it isn't very expandable.
But yesterday I ordered at Dell P4 1.5 GHz with 40MB HD. $938 yesterday from Dell... they were offering $50 off, double memory (!512MB! RDRAM on two chips), gave me free shipping (even though it isn't on promo), and a 16x CD RW burner for cheap. Oh, no monitor. 32 MB nVidia Ge2, SB Live.

I wouldn't trust emachines with a 100 foot pole. I once worked for a company (long defunct, as are other companies he started) run by the guy that started emachines. I check to be sure my wallet is in my pocket every time I see his name.
