Speaking of which...
I have a friend who's a flight attendent for American Airlines. She was telling me that American doesn't display "AIRS" satellite map information anymore during flight anymore. (for those of you who have flow, you probably have seen the map displays)
Those maps display altitude, windspeed, direction, time to destination, etc.
Anyways, she noted the reason American Airlines stopped was because of the 1995 incident where an airplane crashed in Columbia during descent. Apperantly, the people watched in horror as their plane crash on screen and couldn't do anything about it. (the map showed them flying into a mountainside, as well as altitude drop.)
Apperantly, there was another incident where an airplane crashed during takeoff, and all the people just watched the TV screen to see their impending doom. (can't recall which one it was)
Well, the day after she told me that, I left to return to the US, and boy was I suprised to see the AIRS map being used on United Airliens during takeoff and descent. The first thought that occured to me was the thought of what would happen if there was an accident.....
SCARY....

That's amazing (considering all the airline "food" you must have consumed!) ;)
