View Full Version : Busting up the Party

Well this kind of sucked. There is this house down the street from me where these damn kids (18 year olds) are always having parties. EVerytime their parents go out of town, they throw one. This has been going on for three years now but up until a few months ago I never felt compelled to do anything about them. The first time I had to do anything was last July when they had a party. I tried to ignore it but at 1am while I was studying for the bar exam, I could hear their damn music from down the street! Kids were parking in front of my house and walking 1/4 mile to get to the party, so I had to call the cops. Tonight, at 9pm I was leaving for dinner, when I can hardly get through the street. There was approximately 85 cars with kids just walking around with beers in hand etc on the street. They parked on both sides of the street and I could barely get my truck through. Then the kids arent even moving, so I end up just turning on my brights and getting on the horn and driving into them. I watched as a girl who at first tried to shoot me the bird had to dive out of the way as she realized I wasnt stopping the truck. So I did what anyone in my situation would do, I called the cops. I hate doing it, but what else am I going to do? G-d forbid there was an emergency there was no way that anyone could get through. I barely could get from my house to the main street, it really pissed me off. The funny thing is that the dispatcher starts asking me," What didnt you get invited?" at which point I told her that it was a bunch of underage kids drinking and over 75 cars there. At which point she became all serious and then in the background there was a call for a unit to respond to the same party I was complaining about. Apparently a San Diego Police Officer called it in too.

I just feel bad because I never figured that I would be the damn adult calling in the party to the police. What would other people have done?

I would have said, "Screw the Bar exam!" and gone over to the party and drank lots of beer!

But seriously, underage kids always seem to have to learn things the hard way. You did the right thing in calling the cops.

I totally agree. Even with my annoying neighbors I figure let them have their fun. But you had to do what was needed to be done. Someone would've called the cops anyways, it just happend that this time it was you.

However this is a sign that you are not as young as you would think yourself to be. I'm feeling the same way right now. :bawl:

You are now an adult ufcrusher! I had to call the dog-catcher on my neighbor, does that mean I'm a grown-up too? Kim

P.S. I would have done the same thing. Us old gals need our sleep. :D

Well, you calling them "damn kids" makes you old, but that can't be helped.
If they go to all the trouble to point out that there are a bunch of underaged kids drinking and causing problems then they deserve to get caught. If they wanted to have a party and not get it busted up they should have gone to the trouble to keep it relatively low key.
I would only feel guilty if it was a New Years Eve party or some such.

On the bright side you could have saved a life. It doesn't take much for one stupid, drunk kid to go out for a drive and run someone down or crash into a wall.

It sounds to me like someone needs to talk to the parents of those kids. If there is a home owners association a fine needs to be levied to make them aware that it is a serious matter. You could ask them to provide a chaperone for their kids when they go out of town. Or have the police do it. If the parents don't take responsability, file a complaint with the police. Get a petition togeter as it is a public nuisance.
I doubt it will come to that, the parents should want to raise their kids right. But if they don't, ram it down their throats. Make them behave responsably.

Yeah man, maybe if they knew where exactly "the line" for those kind of things is, it would be cool to let them have fun. But that is a serious situation and since the Cops had already been called anyway, I'd say you made the right call. Now you'll know who it is if anyone tp's your house...

Funny you should say that about TPing. Almost all the houses in the area have been TP'd in the recent past. Fortunately, my house isnt one of them, but still it is kind of funny because I was thinking the same thing.

I'd have done the same thing. I could see them having a little party, but when you have people invading your space for their party, it's time for the 5-0's

Their dog broke his chain and got wrapped around my gas meter while they were gone. He is a big mean doberman that enjoys human flesh. I don't like him, but I didn't want him to choke himself trying to get untangled. Unfortunatly the neighbors didn't agree with my reasoning.

If they are hostile enough to keep a dog that would harm you if it got the chance, who cares? The animal was a danger to you. It was their responsability to ensure that a situation never arose that you could be harmed by their dog. They failed. Their dog went to the pound, end of story.
If they were realy concerned about their dog, they would have taught him to recognise you as a neighbor and someone who belonged near by. Then you could have untangled the dog and brought it back.

christ, i woulda gone a step further and wasted a few rolls of film taking pics of all the kids i could, then gone and gotten a hold of a high school year book, found the names, and mailed the pics to parents. if you're gonna be an underage drinker, whatever, your choice, but if you're going to do it on the friggin street - illegal even for an adult - while being a loud @$$hole, you deserve all the pain i can come up with for you...

By the way welfare, who cares if you are underage, my parent's never minded me drinking anyhting... they knew that i have learned my limit... and at like 15 i would drink Cognac and vodka, and my dad would have never said anything... and ever since i was about 17 my dad would offer me drinks here and there at family ocasions.

Jesus christ, the fact that you just quoted Huey Lewis makes you both a) old and b) not just a square, but a mega-hyper-super-number one-top-square!

Geez, Its not like I quoted some obscure musician from the 60's or 70's. Its a damn 80's song...the 80's I tell you. Its not like I was talking about watching the original Land of the lost or All Star Blazers when it was actually on tv! Come on...and as for being a NARC....well the world will never know.

that was my party, people went to jail and i got so busted! couldnt you have called and asked us to tone it down?

Thats so MESSED MAN.....................

J/K
Kids need to cut loose, but........
You pay rent/mortgage/taxes. Most kids dont. Your becoming a lawyer. Kids are trying to "get by and get high man."
Nowadays if you ask them to tone it down, they wont. If you than call the cops, your house/cars/etc will get messed with(egged/keyed/etc).
PARENTS dont teach respect nowadays and tell a kid "NO" and its like you slapped their face.

God bless em but those lil underaged, drinking, cursing, attitude having, loud music playing, disrespectful, "cheeky monkeys" need supervision. :) Now you go pass the bar in peace and quiet. :)

ps: I'd never drop dime on a raging party :P

From my experiences, a party isn't really a party until the cops come knocking at least once. And when they threaten "If we have to come back again, someone's spending the night in jail," Then you really know the night's been a success!

i dont mind people partying too much if:

A: They're not yelling at each other (or fighting) past 9pm.
B: They turn the music down by 11pm.
c: They dont leave beer cans all over my driveway (i dont have one, but if i did.), or all over the street.
D: Dont sit or lean on my Car, other car, or Bike.
E: Dont do drugs visibly, or where i can smell em.
F: fizzle out, or everyon go inside by midnight.
G: Dont park in my driveway, or block me in, or on my grass, etc.

fortunately for me, the apartments i live in dont ever get much partying, and its mostly singles/small families. And most of teh singles i've seen are either students, average class workers, or businessmen/women that have just moved into town rescently. (and just a few military folk too)
