What is your favorite movie shootout? Personally, my favorite would have to be the lobby shootout in the Matrix. The first time I saw it, my jaw just dropped. Spybreak by the Propellerheads really made that scene in my opinion.

Others faves include:

The Untouchables
Last Man Standing
Heat
Face/Off
Desparado
The Crow
Hard Boiled
Reservoir Dogs
Boondock Saints

Any others out there that I should check out?

I'd go with Heat on this one. It may not have the special effects of the Matric, but the Heat battle is actually doable...as was exemplified in Hollywood years ago, although they all ended up dying. Talk about life imitating art...

I liked the chain gun scene in Predator. The one where a large portion of the jungle is leveled.

There's a pretty kickass shootout scene at the end of Ghost in the Shell where the girl is fighting the walking tank. The way the building columns break away reminded me of the lobby scene in the matrix. It's short, but pretty hardcore stuff for a cartoon I'd say.

I agree with you on the scene in the UnforGiven Chosen. Although I was sorta familiar with Cint Eastwood's character from more recent movies, I hadn't had that much exposure to him from his early westerns. Nevertheless, when I saw him quietly show up at the entrance of that bar I must say that I witnessed an unexplainable level of "coolness" that made me want to watch all his previous westerns.

I have to say either the matrix lobby scene, or Dirty Harry at the end of the movie.

I think my is that scene from JFK. YOu remeber that shootout? Well, the shots only went one way (into JFK), so maybe it's not your typical shootout.

So seriously, American Outlaws has some cool shootouts in it. The opening scene and then later on they get trapped ina bank and it gets awesome.

Does the stand-off scene from Swordfish count? or ow about the part where they're driving and Travolta is blasting the black SUVs? That was pretty damn cool (especially the car).

For comedy gunfight, what about the scene in the market in "Raiders of the Lost Ark"?

Short and to the point

How about Pulp Fiction, where Samuel reads Ezekiel 25:17 and then completes the job?

I just saw a movie a little while ago called Time & Tide, which has some awesome scenes in it.

hard boiled egg, with chow yun fat (i think that's what it's called) is a classic with lots of shoot em' up scenes.

The shootout in the origional predator i spretty sweet. not much for realism (compared to heat) but still lots of crazy guns...

Also the fifth element lobby scene is pretty sweet.

yeah the matrix was probably the best, but another cool one is Three Kings... just about all shootouts. That was like one of the best movies.

I would have to agree with the three kings, that movie was cool and all the shootouts rocked

Also LOLITA made a valid point:

When Samuel L Jackson quotes Eizekel 25:17
The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities
of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men.
Blessed is he who, in thename of charity and good will,
shepherds the weak through the valley of the Darkness.
For he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children.
And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance
and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you.
And then lays down DA SHIZNIT.

ALSO how can you guys forget

TERMINATOR II

I mean come on remember that mad shootout with the minigun at the military facility that started the whole experiment with cyborgs?

And there was a shi7load of police3 outside and Arnold just went at them with the minigun and then they came up and there was more shootings and explotions, and more pain in the gloiven :)

If you like quotage and shootage, "Boondock Saints" is a great little movie.

And shepherds we shall be,
for thee my Lord for thee,
Power hath descended forth from thy hand,
that our feet may swiftly carry out thy command,
we shall flow a river forth to thee,
and teeming with souls shall it ever be.
In nomine patrie, et fili et spiritu sancti.

Being a Guns N' Roses fan and all I gotta ask... anyone remember the video for "You Could Be Mine"? In the very end of the video Arnold is waiting for the band and as they pass by he has gun in hand and is analyzing them.
"TARGET: W. AXL ROSE
ASSESSMENT: WASTE OF AMMO"

Yes, Hardbolied (egg?) has a very famous non-stop action scene at the very end. Also for those of you who might be into Hong Kong cinema, two great shootout scenes would be the ending scene of A Better Tomorrow 2, and the ending of The Killer, a movie believed by many as the greatest action flick of all time (all of which star Chow Yun Fatt).

What about:

The Last of the Mohicans
Tombstone ("I'm your Huckleberry." "You're a daisy if ya do.")
El Mariachi

but my all time favorite gun scene lies in Saving Private Ryan.

I wouldn't necessarily call a scene from a war movie a shootout. Sure, there's lots of people shooting and lots of people dying, but a shootout has a totally different feel to it. I can't really descirbe what that feel is, but war movies just don't have it. Maybe it's all of the fatigues and helmets and bunkers that ruin the feel. Shootouts are more wide open and much more quickly paced.

I was wondering who would mention "The Killer". I thought the ending (at the church) was fantastic too
John Woo (the director) is awesome (the Killer, Hard Boiled, Face-Off, MI2)
