So I'm inviting you all over for manicotti and cannoli. Hurry up and get here, Dinner starts at 6. :)

Salsa can be SO easy! Dice tomatoes, onions, and jalepenos, (drain off liquid), then add lime juice (from fresh limes preferrably) and chopped cilantro (maybe a full head) and a some salt to suit your taste.

I have some green zebra tomatos. They are pretty hard and a bit tangy (I think they are good for pickling and frying).
Send me postage (or drop by) and you can have some

In addition to your eBay auctions, you supplement your income by selling hybrid produce? If so, you should tell us what you have. I, for one would be pretty interested.

Or you could just have a good old fashioned tomoato fight. Have you seen the coverage of 'La Tomatilla' in the news? It's an annual event in Spain where a whole city just throws tomatoes at each other.

I thought I made it pretty clear. I have green zebra tomatoes!
I also have the previously discussed "Sweet and sour peaches" but those are going fast.
I have regular tomatoes and figs, but you could probably buy them in stores.

blanch tomatoes(about 5 lbs) in hot water-long enough so that once you run them under cold=the skin will peel off...give 'em a good squash between your fingers and toss into a bowl till they are all ready.(I don't bother taking the seeds out-they make for good flavor). Once you get this all done with the tomatoes, take a heavy bottomed pan, heated fairly well, with about a half a cup of olive oil poured into the center of the bottom of the pan-let it heat up a bit so it spreads, once this is done, add the tomatoes, one large can of tomato paste,4 cups of water(or enough to cover the tomatoes)about 1/2 cup of FRESH basil chopped fine.(dry works good too-use 1/8 cup if dryed). One cup of ROMANO CHEESE(fresh grated-but store grated is fine)Oregano-dryed or fresh, fresh about 1/4 cup chopped fine, dryed-1/8 cup. 1 cup of any fairly decent red wine if you want. And 1/2 cup of sugar if you aren't going to cook it for at least 5 hours simmering uncovered. Longer cooking time makes for thicker/sweeter sauce. Cook UNCOVERED, and occasionally stir it. Thats all. PS..it makes alot-do NOT place in refridge covered while still hot or it will sour.

Mmm.. I'm having some fresh tomatoes cut up with cucumbers right now for a mid-morning, before lunch snack. I marinated them last night in a bit of Ken's Italian dressing. They are yummy! I got them from my dads garden since his are coming in like crazy and my puny two deck tomatoes produced a total of 4 tomatoes this year, one of which came out funky due to the branch bending ( i think) and one is still green. Since it produced such unmotivating results, I stopped watering them about 4 days ago... that autta teach em!
:heh:
eewwwww....tomatoes or nasty.....I think all tomatoes should die a horrible death!!! yuck yuck yuck yuck http://www.ukobservers.net/cwm/cwm/3dlil/puke.gif
Though, I do like salsa when made properly and I love ketchup...so go figure

i say tomatoes rule, on the other hand american tomatoes suck for one simple reason, to many hormones and steroids and pestisides etc in them, so they lose the taste, now tomatoes in israel and russia, yum yum yum... actually any kind of food outside usa tastes much better.

PS..I FORGOT TO ADD..they should be ROMA TOMATOES-the only kind appropriate for REAL ITALIAN SAUCE..
Hey I like that marinated stuff too..I like my tomatoes with olive oil and basil and course salt. Add the vinegar at the last moment before serving though-and some mozzerella cheese......yum. The best part is sopping up the juice with crusty italian bread.
