THis is a rant about Gateway tech support and customer services.

<im not sure if this is appropiate to slam a coorp on here so if its bad i appolagize up front to the members of G|A?, but most certinitlty not to those at which this thread is directed at>

Okay, heres the story. I ahve a lady friend who owns a Gateway PC. SHe recently had a few problems, the biggest of which her modem whould not respond to msot dials. SHe had someother minor software problems with prog not responding but the modem was the biggest.

After only a few min of tech support with Gateway <i wasnt there when she had to prob otherwise i could ahve fixed it> they told her she needs a new modem. SO they shipped it and charged her. The modem arrived a few days later along with a bill. $54 for the modem plus shipping charges. She called and asked me to come oer and install her new modem.
I got over there, looked at the situation and told her there was no way the modem was bad.
Took the modem out, put it in my puter, it worked great.
Fixed the software prob on hers and the modem worked jsut fine.

When i called Gateway to ask about returning the modem they siad that it could be returned for the price of the modem only. She would have to pay to and from shipping charges. So she is out $10 because of a mistake made on the part of the Coorp and not her own doing.

I understand normally when you order something and then change your mind that you cover the shipping. BUt this situation was different. SHe was misinformed by Gateway that this was needed. The problem was very simple to rectify and the fault of the mis-diagnosis was completly thiers. IN this situation since the sent her an item that was completly unneeded and unessacary I believe that they should reimburse her for the full amount of the modem and shipping to her an d back to the Gateway warehouse from which it came. Gateway screwed up and its costing her money. What the hell kinda stupidity is that.

OKay im not done with my rant but ill shut up
think what you will and flame away but i still think this is complete bulls**t.

Always just ask to speak to the higher ups...

"Can I speak to your supervisor? Can I also have your name and extension number?"

Repeat that a few times and the problem will more likely than not be solved.

Escalate the issue. Eventualy you will find someone who would rather spend $20 of the companies money than argue with you.

If not there is small claims court.
