View Full Version : Pentium 4 RAM help

Okay. I made the mistake of ordering components without doing proper research. I bought a Pentium 4 1.5ghz CPU w/ an ASUS motherboard. I purchased two 256mb DIMMs and learn to find that this mobo does not support DIMMs but RIMMS. Can someone shed some light on this subject for me?

Sure. Your screwed.
Intel has a contract to only support Rambus with their P4 processors untill I don't know when. I think it expires relatively soon.
There are suposed to be some motherboards coming out soon (if they are not available yet) that support DDR.
Intel was trying to move the market to a new memory technolofy that it could control better. It was intended to loosen AMD's grip on the market. But new developments in DDR caught up to Rambus memory and rendered their advantages moot. Rambus is much more expensive, so the only thing that happened is that Intel lost more market share.

the newer mobos set to come out later this year will support the ddr dram chips. otherwise you'll need either a new mobo or new ram
