i just threw out some food at the dumpster. wow, does that thing reek!

so, anyhow, i was out there, right....and got to thinking: i remember some people the i knew that swore that "dumpster diving" is a good way to get free stuff. of course i realize there are dumpsters that are filled just with cleaner stuff that you can go through. i have heard the stories of people finding artwork, original cartoons, and stuff like that and were worth some cash. but i am just concerned about the smelly ones. here are some questions i have on that....

1. if you know someone has been dumpster diving, do you let them in your house? if so...do you let them sit on your couch? do you shake their hand? do you accept gifts from them?

2. if it is such a good way to get stuff, how come i havent seen it posted here in the deals section?

3. if you have been dumpster diving, do you let yourself into your house? do you have to wash outside first? might you have an outside shower stall? if you shower inside, do you clean your shower afterwards? do you burn your clothes when you are done?

4. if you wanted to go to a bunch of dumpsters in one day, how do you get there? do you drive? do you clean off your loot before putting it in your car? do you have to sanitize your car daily?

well, that is about it i guess. i just wondered. no, i am not considering this venture for myself.....smarty pants

my neighbor does. It is quite popular on bases actually. Cuz when people move, they put things out on the corner and then people will take it. Guess that really isn't dumpster diving, but still.

She will take pet food and cleaners.

As for gifts from her, try not to. If I do, I hide it really well in a bag of soppy garbage.

Does she come into the house? she does but she stands the whole time, I would be scared if she sat. She would never leave!

i have seen a couple of things in the dumpster, like furniture, and thought "why the heck did anyone throw that away?" but dint act on it. but if i saw something worth over $50, i think it'd be worth hosing off in the backyard afterwards. maybe. if nobody saw me do it :D

Generaly "Dumpster Diving" is done in doupsters that don't receive much wet trash (food and the like).
You would dive in a dumpster behind a corporate building, not a mall or food court.
No, I don't dive. Well, scuba, but not dumpster.

any of you guys remember the VW golf commercial???

two guys are driving, and when they pull up to a stop sign, they see a prett nice looking couch....
they look at each other, as if to say why not...
Then, you see them driving with the couch in the back, when they start looking at each other....with this 'what is that smell' face :)
then you see them putting the couch back where they found it

I love that commercial :)

I had to go dumpster diving to find a retainer that had been trown away on accident. It was wrapped in a napkin and sitting on my tray at a restaurant. I found it though... somehow... :hmm:
