Okay...Ironchef, the word is scandinavian in origin, which ou already knew...but it has a rather heathen origin. Freya the witch is a character from norse mythology, and Friday is the day dedicated to her, Freya's Day => Friday.
Most of our days are based on norse gods...
Tiw's Day => Tuesday
Woden's Day => Wednesday
Thor's Day => Thursday
Freya's Day => Friday
...and this concludes today's etymologic lesson. maybe you can use this information to score with the opposite sex.

actually, it comes from the two lesser gods (members of the Vanir, as opposed to the greater gods, the Aesir, like Wotan/Othin) Frey and Freya, who were god and goddess of fertility.

A buddy of mine and I decided that all days of the weekend should start with the same letters. ie Friday, Fraturday and Frunday. IT just sounds better. Also, Wednesday should be pronounced as it's spelled. Wed-nes-day. Makes it easier to spell.
