Why do they still sell that cheapo bubble gum like Double Bubble? Why would anyone want to buy bubble gum that sticks to your lips and face? It tastes terrible too.
Why is my spanish teacher so friggin' racist? Today, he goes, "So, *****, 'Tiene razon(?)' means 'Good job' right?" Then I go, "Surrrrre." Then he just bursts out with, "No. Don't speak chinese in here! This is spanish class!" True story.
More racism... "You can get by in a foreign country fine if you just know the courtesy words like 'thanks' and 'please.' If you know 'si' you can communicate with your gardener.
Hmm...2 racist remarks in 4 days. At this rate, he'll be up to like almost 100 by the end of the year.
Am I making too much out of this? Hmmmm :hmm:

the gardener remark was over the top, but the "no chinese" thing - depends. he's a dumb-butt for not understanding what you said, but if he also yells at kids for speaking english in class instead of spanish (fair enough in a 3rd year language course), then that's all it was.
but, yeah, digital voice recorder. and a journal with dates and times. have something elaborate and documented to present to the school board. it's fun, but only if you can really back up your statements, and witnesses are tough to get to come with you, 'cause nobody wants to rock the boat... which is why ppl like that keep their jobs year after year...

wait up here... in a spanish class, your supposed to speak spanish, not english, chineese, french, or swahili.... i think your just biased against your teacher.
also, um, maybe you should try learning in class, and not worrying about how racist your teacher is, cause he didnt say "good job"... he said something completely different.... so go study hard and make less of a bling bling fool of your self ;) (<==== meant to be taken lightly!)

"You can get by in a foreign country fine if you just know the courtesy words like 'thanks' and 'please.'"
This is true believe it or not. You may get taken a few times, but youll actually get around. Why? simple. Usually foriegners go to places in other contries where they're used to turists. The locals learn just a little english, and the turists learn just a little of the local language. Most communication is done by pointing at objects (such as something you want to purchase or something on a restraunt menu) and saying "Please". And then the local blurts out a phrase you don't understand, and then you say "Yes!". :) See, thats how things work. (believe me i lived in Spain 10 years).
On the other hand, the comment about the gardner was a little rude, BUT, your teacher may have a spahins / mexican gardner, and again, point out things, make hand signals, and then the gardner says "Si", does it and hands him the bill. Unfortunately many Mexicans have low levels of education, and have a hard time learning the english language. (I know this from experience with helping teach some, and my dad teaching several english classes to Mexicans). Because of this they get Sterotyped (sp?).
This doesnt mean they're any less of a person. In fact, several of these Mexicans i have in mind are great people, and nice to converse with, but in their own language. They are hard workers and more often than not, they are the ones to accomplish the "American Dream" not us "Americans". (Odd, cause America was built on ppl like that. Hard work does pay off sometimes!)
Try asking your teacher (out of class) why he used that example in his class. Sometimes they're un-aware of what they say is rude or "racist", until they think about what they said....
i am with nano's last statement. i mean, it was bad and all, but maybe he is oblivious to this whole PC thing. not to mention look at how many people, especially here, go against the PC movement. he could very well be trying to do that whole "everyone is too PC" deal.
anyhow, point being...why try to get the guy fired right off the bat. how about tell him about it first. he may stop doing it. he may even apologize. if he doesnt and the problem persists, by all means, bury his arse! at any rate, it's not a bad idea to cover your backside in the process.

I love double bubble and I think you are a bubble racist. *snicker*...***** you must learn that you have to not be afraid to speak up to people regarding matters like this. Be it a teacher or a lawyer-comments like that don't have to be tolerated by anyone, especially when they are made in a work environment(his) that is supposed to be dealing with tolerance. I would just tell him and the principal of the school, that he is making comments that are out of line and if it continues you and your parents will be taking the matter up with the board of educaton AND the press. NO one wants bad coverage, especially a school district that is trying to get monies from the federal government. Nothing like the threat of bad publicity to make them start Sh*tting bricks over the worry about loosing their federal funding. But fyi-there are still LOADS of ignorant people out in this world so get used to hearing stupid crap like that..I learned long ago to stop people in their tracks when they make comments of that nature. I got sick of hearing that 'ALL ITALIANS ARE IN THE MAFIA/ONLY EAT PASTA/ALL COME FROM SICILY etc etc.' Now I just say, well seeing as how I was born here, I wouldn't know about that,And you must be from kentucky cause we KNOW all dumb people come from kentucky (yeh yeh I know they don't)..then I usually say-so what's it like being married to your sister/brother etc..It ALMOST makes them realize I am trying to be as ignorant as they sound and it shuts them right up.

i thought all dumb pl were from arKANsas...? :D ;)
But see here obby, your gonna make Pass. grow up to be another Sue-happy, egotistic, manerless adult... and heres why.
When your offended by something someone says, the first thing to do isn't start offending them back, acting rude, or threatnening them. You need to address them privately if you can, and clarify the reason they said what they said. Some people, (like my dad for instance, and you all know hes a preacher, and wouldnt say something just to be ignorant or rude), can sometimes say something thats rude, or can be interpreted to be rude.
For example, over in spain, after church services, ther was a lady there that would hand out candy to all the little kids (she owned a candy store). Well, my dad got VERY tired of all these un-disciplined little kids just throwing the wrappers on the floor of the church, (Or on the sidewalk out in FRONT of the church) especially since WE (our family) had to clean them all up. SO, on sunday evening he mentioned that Christians shouln't act like little pigs and just throw stuff like that on the ground, but should be a good example to others and keep things clean, and asked the parents to instruct their children tp throw away their candy wrappers in trash cans.
Weeeeeel, one fellow and his entire family didnt come back the next sunday. (and they were very good "regulars"). My dad finally called them, and lo-and-behold, the guy had misunderstood my dad, and thought he was calling them all pigs, and got all offended and stuff.
Now, heres the corelation(sp?) to Pass... He Says one thing, but how to we know he hasnt misunderstood his teacher... I mean, after all, he got the part about what was said in spanish WRONG, and, (no offense) depending on his mastery of the english language (i donno much about you d00d, so pardon my ignorance here) he may have misunderstood his teacher in english too. Also, his story doesnt match up (unless he edited it and i missed something) cause to quote him: Then I go, "Surrrrre." Then he just bursts out with, "No. Don't speak chinese in here! This is spanish class!"
Now i dont know about you, but i didnt see ANY chinese in that sentence. Maybe the "Surrrrre" was supposed to be, i don't know. But as written, its confusing, and takes away from his credibility as to weather or not he is very DETAILED in his writing or listening. (im not trying to tear into you here d00d... just working an angle on my "point").
Also, if the guy that had gotten offended by my dad supposedly calling him and his family a "Pig" had been just a little sue happy then he would have been like: I don't have to tolerate this by anyone, especially when the comment was made in a church environment that is supposed to be dealing with tolerance. I would just tell him and the federal government, that he is making comments that are out of line and if it continues Me and My family will be taking the matter up with the press. NO one wants bad coverage, especially a church that is trying hard to get started. Nothing like the threat of bad publicity to make them start Sh*tting bricks over the worry about loosing their church, all their money, home, etc.
(obviously i "paraphrased a little) but i still think i have a small point... so, the moral of my story is to be carefull when you actually get offended by something, doubble check to make sure thats what the pserson was ACTUALLY saying, doubble check to see if thats what they ACTUALLY meant, and if they were even AWARE of what they said was what it sounded like and how offensive it may be.
if not, the next thing youll see is something like, say for example, a counterstrike gamer, getting kicked out of a counterstrike server, and then sueing the server owner/admin for getting kicked cause this or that or blah blah blah... (my point is STOP this down hill slide of america to be SURE happy!)
HOLY COW! I just realized my postage length has increased to where even RENOTS can be proud of me :D

I really wasn't planning to sue anyone for this. :)
About the "SURRRRRRE" thing though, I think he was referencing to the mandarin word, "Shí."

Well of COURSE you aren't going to sue..it's not the actual suing I was talking about, but the POWER OF SUGGESTION goes along way. Trust me I'm old. This isn't Mayberry RFD anymore. And I'm sure passwird will grow up to be just fine. As far as mannerless, there is a big difference between having NO manners and having the courage to speak up for yourself. Trust me I have raised a ton of kids, my own and nieces and nephews-there is something to be said about having a decent set of balls when you need to.

The Mexicans that do the $hit jobs like gardening and auto repair do tend to have lower levels of education, and so do many Americans. English is a very difficult language to learn, but luckily those with kids who are learning English teach the parents some so communication is possible. Also ESL classes are growing at incredible rate at community colleges, especially in California(my parents are ESL professors). It's just feeling comfortable speaking it that hinders many from attempting to speak it.
I totally agree with the rest of your statement, Nano.
