Today the "Audrey" was mentioned on the deals page.

Not sure if people realized that it has been abandoned a few months ago by 3Com (in fact, they bought them back from people). Likely Tiger bought these and is now re-selling them.

According to the 3Com site, SOME features will be disabled as a result:

My mom still bought one for my dad.

I saw the same things about the discontinued features: "Although most of the Audrey™ features will continue to work (Email, Calendar, Address Book, Web Browsing), as of April 18, 2001, the Internet Channels (i.e., AccuWeather, CBSMarketwatch, etc.) as well as the ability to auto-update system software and applications will no longer function or be supported."

My dad won't touch the computer and the warranty is still valid for the remaining features.

"... customers who decide to keep and continue to use the product will be able to receive hardware support for the duration of their warranty (except for the two discontinued functions mentioned above)."

I actually told her to get him one of these after he informed me that he wanted a mailstation. With the Audreys, you get the web browser so he can see pictures that are attached to emails (mailstation you cannot), he can follow a link attached to the email, and most importantly, he doesn't have to pay extra for his email. With Mailstation you have to pay $5-10 for their email service and that's not including any phone charges you might incur for dialing in. The Audrey allows my mom to use their existing ISP.

These are all good points to know also if you are making a choice whether to buy one or not. :)

You know that thing wouldn't be bad if it could use WAP and connect with 802.11.

What a coincidence, I just purchased one from Tigerdirect. I've been thinking about it for awhile... thought I would go ahead, want to see about using it as basically an expensive alarm clock ;) Next to the bed for quick browsing the web. Have it wake me up and can check a news/weather page.
Looks like there are some decent hacks for it @ http://www.audreyhacking.com/

Might sound a bit stupid, but hey, I was looking at getting a Alarm Clock/remote Temp sensor, the price kept going up for little feature (those Oregon Sci clocks), its not much more for this! and does quite a bit more.

You just need one of these... I've been considering it myself.

No you need one of those and DRIVERS! It's easy to find USB 802.11 adapters, finding one with drivers that will work on Audrey's OS and processor is another story.

I got my Audrey today, it is great as an organizer, glad I got it. Does anyone know if it supports a connection to Netzero? I read up on Audrey, I think to update it to the latest version may be difficult through a dial up connection. For anyone interested, here is a link that tells how to update the Audrey http://www.canoma.com/audrey/sysupdate.html

Try here:NetZero Info (http://www.dreamcastfun.com/frispnz.shtml)

This is geared towards getting NetZero to work with the Dreamcast however, I used the info to get NetZero to work on my Audrey.

Note: if you have a pop3 account, you will not be able to get it to work with Audrey using Bluelight or NetZero as a dial up. Port 25 (which is used for smpt -- the outgoing protocol for pop3 accounts) is blocked on most free isps (to prevent spamming). So, you'll be able to get mail from a pop3 account, just not send it.

I keep trying to sign up and keep getthing the message, "We're Sorry!
Apparently there has been a miscommunication between our server and your computer. Please try again in a few moments."
I also wonder since Audrey is so limited in storage space if Netzero would take up too much space because they keep updating Netzero and I think put spyware on systems. Still, I need some kind of connection so I can update Audrey. I find the clock keeps loosing time when Audrey looses power and I think if I update Audrey, that would stop.

Audrey works just fine with the Netzero setup. You don't have to worry about Adrey's memory capacity, it works just fine. As soon as you get an account set up with Netzero, the rest comes easy. Keep trying. When I get a chance, I'll test it on my Audrey and give you the specifics.

NetZero does not work on Dreamcast anymore, their password encoding changed and they also require you to use their NetZero front end that validates your login. Since it is a windows program I assume it will not run on the Audrey.

It works on my Dreamcast. It works on my Audrey. It works in the form detailed above on my home PC (I tested it last night for the purposes of this thread).

I'm sure at some point it won't work for me, but it does right now.
