some poor dumbass reported on the ground not a 1/4 mile from the buildings filming it live and when he finally realized the debris was coming his way, he finally just realized where the **** he was ( in the debris path) and just started running like ****.

the ****ing thing looks like the scene out of godzilla where the top of the tower just falls off and flips over and hits the ground in a ****ing huge ball of smoke.

the entire harbour is completely covered in smoke also.

An update for those who don't have access to TV news: both towers seem to have now crumbled, at least to about the 50th floors. Also, one or more planes have crashed into the Pentagon. Eyewitness report I heard said it was a plane larger than a commuter plane, which was previously reported. There was also a large plane crash in Pennsylvania. Reports from CNN say that the FAA is monitoring another plane that is hijacked.

My company is a Financial Services company who relies and works heavily with/on the WTC and its employees. Everyone around here is in total shock and it is utterly sickening to hear this news. All activity concerning work has halted.

My mom is in NC closing on her new house to return tonight or tomorrow. My dad's wife works for AA and is on duty today (one of the highjacked planes' airlines). And I am leaving Thursday morning for Ireland for one week and England for one week. I am completely sickened to the point of physical reactions by this news.

Please someone keep posting updates as you hear them. I am in systems and cannot leave work. I am hearing bits and pieces from people around me but anyone with first hand knowledge please keep posting.

Chrissy/Crabbie is correct. I just heard that there are reports of a United passenger flight on it's way to San Francisco that has crashed - I did not hear where it crashed. The FAA has ordered all planes to land, and anything international that is coming in is being diverted to Canada or turned away and forced to land elsewhere.
Very, very scary to think that at least 4 planes have been hijacked in one day. Obviously airport security is extremely lacking if 4 planes can be taken over by a planned group. Impossible to say yet if any other hijackings were prevented. The planes that crashed into the WTC were most likely not flown into the buildings by the pilots who were originally flying them. I would think that any hijacked pilot would make an attempt to crash their plane into the nearby NY waters instead of into buildings containing tens of thousands of people. If they knew that they were doomed to die I'm sure they would take into consideration the loss of life on the ground. The latest just now from CNN at 8:45 pacific time says that United flight 175 is still flying and they have determined it is hijacked.

AMR Corp.'s American Airlines on Tuesday confirmed that two of its jets carrying a total of 156 passengers and crew were lost in the attacks. Text of statement from American Airlines. Here is a list of the planes:

-- American Airlines Flight 11, a Boeing Co. 767 en route from Boston to Los Angeles with 81 passengers, nine flight attendants and two pilots

-- Second American Airlines plane was Flight 77, a Boeing 757 operating from Washington Dulles to Los Angeles with 58 passengers, four flight attendants and two pilots.

-- United Airlines confirms United plane crashing, location not given.

-- United Airlines Confirms Flight 93 Crashes near Western Pennsylvania. The Boeing 757 was enroute from Newark, N.J. to San Francisco.

Very scary to wonder why they're not telling us where the other plane crashed. Why aren't reports coming from the location of the plane crash? Did they hit something nuclear? How can you crash a Boeing 767 and not have reports as to where it happened?!?!!?

i can't beleive this.

i live about a mile away from the wtc, and this morning on my way to class, i could see the towers burning. i left about 5 minutes after the second plane hit. there were a bunch of people on rooftops and street corners watching the site. i drove to class, and as i was driving, people were pulling over to see what was going on.

so i go into class, and my prof says he'll just do half a lecuture. when i get out, i go to find a tv, meanwhile, my sister calls me to say that they collapsed. and then school was closed.

i used to go to the wtc everyday. if i still worked, i would have been there when the first plane struck the building.

i just can't believe how much our lives are going to be different. if u live in or around nyc or dc, i'm sure u are feeling the same insecurities about going outside that i do. i was shaking while driving to my parents house (i don't think i can get to my apartment, the roads are all closed)

Palestinians across the West Bank on Tuesday celebrated the series of aircraft attacks on New York and Washington. There were scenes of celebration in the West Bank cities of Nablus, Tul Karm, Bethlehem and the Balata refugee camp.

While Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat condemned the attacks which levelled the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York City and struck the Pentagon in Washington, hundreds of Palestinians distributed sweets in Nablus.

"I feel I am in a dream. I never believed that one day the United States would come to pay a price for its support to Israel," said Mustafa, a 24-year-old Palestinian gunman.

Several dozen Palestinian youths gathered in East Jerusalem to celebrate as well, honking out wedding tunes on their car horns. "We are so happy that America was hit. America is against us in supporting Israel," Suleiman, one of the demonstrators, said.

In Nablus, motorists honked their horns and gunmen fired into the air from assault rifles to cheer on the attacks which unfolded in the space of a few hours.

Police pulled over a large white truck acting strangely... the driver gave conflicting info, had a fake license, and was middle eastern.
He refused to allow police to search his truck, and now one of the major loops in Houston is shutdown at the area. I'll keep you posted if anything happens...

Yeah, i'm watching the live local news, and they don't have any updates, but they did show the bomb sqaud checking out the truck... so far, NO explosives have been found.

I feel just awful today.

Yesterday was my 21st. It was gorgeous, here in STL. I had a wonderful day.

I wake up today, feeling extremely sick and hungover. And then things just got worse.

I've never cried for humanity until this day. This is just awful. Watching that plane blow a hole through the WTC really knocked it home.

My dad works at Boeing, which is right next to Lambert Airport. (St. Louis's international). When the FAA shut it down, he sent an email out:
"it is really spooky up here - no flights in or out of Lambert. I can't remember a time when its been so quiet."


This is just too sad.

Nothing found in the truck that was stopped. Seems that there was a language barrier, and there was only furniture in the truck. But it just goes to show how on edge everyone is... I have a feeling that there will be more situations like this in the coming days. Let's just hope that people can keep their wits about them and not lose their cool.

My brother is in school at the University of North Dakota to become a commerical airline pilot. He sent me an email with the following:


The air base here is just scrambling like mad. They're on alert "delta" which is the alert they use when the United States goes to war. They're searching every single car that want to go on the base including officers cars.... and using mirrors to check for explosives underneath them. One of my professors started crying as he was trying to announce that class was cancelled.
As I'm sure you've heard the FAA has shut down all airports. This is definately true here. Right now they are blocking access to even the airport road and my flight lab for tonight has been cancelled by the FAA. Flights have been diverted to grand forks (note: the town my brother lives in). But the most interesting story over here is at the airport. An hour ago the airport manager ran out of the terminal yelling "we've got trouble". They're not disclosing exactly what that means but passengers that were on those flights are now being searched, the FBI is crawling around our airport and the airbase has sent over several bomb sniffing dogs that are concentrating on one of the planes. A bomb sniffing dog went nuts when it went on the plane and smelled a bag of a passanger... who is middle eastern and was acting "suspiscious"... he's now in custody.. that's all we know.

My understanding of the Accords is limited. However, I believe there is some significance to the 11th, in terms of the Accords. Here's one page of info I found about the 11th.

Twilight, that is happening here too. My husband couldn't make it on base today. All bases are on Delta alert. We are locked down (we cannot leave the housing area). Donnie said until further notice, they are working 12 hr shifts.

My thoughts and prayers are with the families and the whole United States. I am sure this has hit home for one reason or another for everyone. Personally, I work within General Electric Aircraft Engines, so there is some concern at the Evendale Plant (Cincinnati). At one point during the Cold War, it was no. 3 on the hit list for the Soviet Union. A co-worker has a son who works(ed) in the WTC and he and a friend went for a "smoke" break when the first buidling was hit. Fortunately he has made it out ok.

I agree topane- I was trying to change this stereotyping accusation, but you have a much better outlook: just stop it altogether.

As far as the pictures, if it were me, I'm not so sure I would want a photo to remember the horror. If I weren't stuck in MN, I would definately try to help. It would be very hard, but it would be better than sitting here wondering what is going on.

this just in, an official from the pentagon, confirmed the location of all their workers. also confirmed that the plane that crashed in pittsburgh was NOT shot down.

...i was in lab when this happened, and was/is totally awestruck, the feeling has not set in. in this day in age, this sort of act of war is not inviting. being in a family that was a refugee of war, i do not find this situation appealing at all. war is nothing of use or goodness. nothing good ever comes out of war. nothing but pain and suffering. for those of you wishing for war, take into account we're goin to be sending our sons (and daughters) into the killing fields again. even if we have a total win as in the gulf war. we still had loses, i for one am not looking forward to goin to any funeral, of anybodies...

Where did you hear that they're asking for volunteers? I heard on one of the major networks (flipping around, don't know which one) that the police are making everyone back off from the site. They believe 200 firefighters are missing and presumed crushed by the collapses.

I'm concerned that the black boxes may not survive this one. As strong as the recorders are, crashing into a skyscraper then being part of the gazillion tons of rubble when it falls doesn't bode well for their longevity.

However, the Pentagon and SW of Pittsburgh ones should survive. The Flight Data Recorder and Cockpit Voice Recorder are both located in the tailcone of the planes... maybe there is a chance the WTC ones made it.

I'm concerned for what's got to be coming. The world terrorist organizations just saw unequivical evidence that terrorism on the U.S.A. is possible... I'm afraid it might be open season.

NBC just reported that they assumed the black box from the plane that crashed in Pittsburgh would be intact, since the plane crashed in a field. Makes me think that they are doubtful the others will be found intact...

31 people were taken to arlington hospital. 6 were dicharged, 13 were admitted, and the rest are under evaluation still. i think like 6 of the 13 are in ICU and are in critical condition. not very many people at all died in the pentagon. it could have been a lot worse, but since the west part where the plane hit was reinforced, the damage was a lot less than it could have been. plus the neighboring area in the pent. was already evacuated cuz it was due to be remodeled.

Wow. what a morning. It seems to keep on going. My building was evacuated this morning (Wells Fargo downtown LA), and since I live across the street, I can see that downtown is a goddamn ghost town.

Reports out here are saying that there's a "suspicious package" in the parking structure at LAX (Bradley Int'l terminal). Since LAX has been evacuated since this morn, it sounds reasonably credible.

I say we investigate with microscopic detail, then we strike with unparalleled fury. But be sure: we do so only when we know exactly who has done it. This country has been founded upon the rule of law and the due process. Going off half cocked to appease those that lust blood would satisfy a lot of terrorists.

As someone with some medical training and an able body, I'd love to get out there. I hope similar people closer to the action are doing so.

A television station in Abu Dhabi reported that the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine claimed responsibility for the attacks on the World Trade Center. The DFLP has denied the claim.

The attacks differ significantly from the DFLP's previous methods of operation. Likewise, the resources and infrastructure necessary for such attacks appear far beyond the group's traditional means.

The DFLP was formed in 1969 with an estimated membership of 500. It was originally based in Syria, but the location of its current headquarters are unknown. The DFLP receives financial and military aid from Syria and Libya. It operates in Syria, Lebanon, Israel and the occupied territories. Its leader is Naif Hawatmeh, according to Israeli-based Institute for Counterterrorism (ICT).

The group was largely dormant from 1988 until this summer, when it claimed responsibility for an Aug. 25 attack against an Israeli military post in the Gaza Strip that left three Israeli soldiers dead. This attack was the first instance of Palestinians successfully using conventional military-style tactics.

Before 2001, DFLP operations have always taken place either inside Israel or in the West Bank and Gaza. Typical acts include minor bombings and grenade attacks, as well as hostage-taking and attempts to negotiate the return of Palestinian prisoners held by Israelis.

The group split from the Palestinian Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) in 1969 but reconciled with the PFLP - and with Palestinian Authority leader Yasser Arafat - in August 1999.

I just saw a video of the second plane hitting the tower. This video was taken from not far away from the tower, looking up. In slow motion, you see the plane disappear into the tower and momentum carry parts of it out the other side. Absolutely incredible. It is possible that the black boxes didn't even remain in the building.
