Prices of crude oil are rising quickly.

At least in California, stations tend to raise their prices pretty high overnight.

If you top off all your tanks now, you might be able to save some money.

Of course, if you are in an area that is under attack, don't cause a panic. This is for other areas only.

OPEC has guaranteed to maintain adequate oil supplies.

This actually has nothing to do with OPEC.
The local stations here are just greedy. If there is a 3 gallon spill in Oklahoma, they will use it as an excuse to raise prices by $0.25.
Sad, but true.

In that case, I think "local" means the entire country.

On the other hand, if you were long on energy interets, you'll be laughing. I know I positioned my trust fund to be big in energy units, and I haven't checked the numbers yet, but I keep hearing oil prices were rising before global trading was halted.

Buy a bus pass or something and sink your cash into oil equity. That's the best deal!

It is possible that oil and some other interests will be nationalized to prevent hoarding, gouging and other things.

I think the economic effects of this incident will be minor. What bears watching is the indirect effects of the political ramifications.

In Tulsa now, it is $4.00/gallon! It is that now in Garden City, Kansas, too...I got in RIGHT before it changed and got it for $1.73/gal.

I heard from a couple of friends in Tulsa that it was only that high at certain gas stations. Of course, that will probably change soon.

I heard that some places in Indiana (I think it was Michigan City) raised prices to $4.50/gallon. In Illinois they have threatend to clamp down hard on any stations that price gouge.

Our radio stations in the Mid-West are saying it is price-gouging. Does anyone have any real information about what's gonna happen? Any insiders?

i predicted this around noon central (yes, i'm gloating :P)
and right after, my coworker's fiancee called and said it was $4 in tulsa.

Gotmilk lives there so i prolly think he knows a little better about how much it is.

I'm in OKC. I got mine for around $1.6x (91 octane) at noon. About 3 or 4pm people were lined up around the corner waiting to get gas. By 5pm there wasnt a line. I think a few stations tried to take major advantage of this, but not all. Some were reported to have taken the numbers off their signs (the big signs) and not actually post a price.

The Texas Attorney General has already warned the stations around here to get their act together or they will shut em down immediatly.

Alexandria, VA (just outside DC) stations are still the same: about $1.50 for regular. This was at about 5-6pm today. Who knows what tomorrow'll bring.

That's Price Gouging, And I believe if people do that you can call the police to tell them.
Especially in NYC, that's what Guliana said.

there isn't any reason for this panic, considering the supply is just fine. it's price gouging, and I personally would never ever shop again at a gas station that pulled this crap today.

How can gas stations justify the raise in price? An oil refinery wasn't hit nor has the middle east decided to limit their supply of oil to the states. Boggles the mind how they can raise the price so much.:hmm:

around here people baricaded their gas stations (a few) and blanked out their prices boards so that idiots wouldnt just line up for miles and make them run out of gas.

once they confirmed with their suppliers that they were gonna get more gas in tomorrow, they re-opened their stations.

in Yukon, Oklahoma, the local police went as far as blocking the gas stations, and checking to see if people really needed gas... if they were over 1/2 tank, the cops sent them on their way.

Most gas stations are privately owned and operated. There are two Shell stations here about 2 blocks from each other that have a price difference of more than 10 cents for regular.

ExxonMobil said that they will not be raising gas prices for any of the more than 1000 stations that are owned and operated by them.
