View Full Version : Magnitude of what happened
I was mulling over in my head as to how to describe the size of the two towers. I've been in them, but alot of my friends aren't aware of the sheer size of the buildings. The only thing I can think of is to look at that horrible picture of the second plane crashing into the building. Look at how small the plan is compared to the building. It's just unreal how big these buildings were.

No kidding. I work in the Wells Fargo towers in LA, and they're not small: 50, 55 floors each. Next door is the Library Tower, which is the tallest building west of the Mississippi. that's 75 floors, and nowhere near as...girthful. Walking to lunch, a few of us tried to imagine what it'd be like to more than double the size of our building, then imagine it coming down like those two did. Unfathomable.

What did they say on the news? A zip code of it's own and more phone numbers (or something) than the city of Detroit.

I'm still in some sort of weird denial. I just can't believe they're gone. Driving up to NYC will never be the same. I can't imagine what this might be for those who are used to seeing it every day.

Yeah, I was there last summer...those two towers are so huge its not even funny. From the observation deck you can see pretty much the whole island of Manhattan and Jersey. I'm always remember the feeling I got when I stared straight down onto the streets...the cars just looked like tiny little dots...

aside from the tragedy... im curious to know what theyll do with the new towers? Are they gonna try to make em the tallest building like everything else that is built these days? The old ones were kinda just plain aside from the fact that they were icons of manhattan.
Oh well...itll be years before the new tower(s) are up.

They will be the tallest towers in the whole world. We will do it just to slap the face of the bastards who did this. When they understand that we will just grow past this bigger and stronger than ever, they will know despair because all their efforts truly failed. Their grandest effort merely cleared the way for greater successes. And then they will know that they can never defeat us because we will always pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and keep going.

i believe i heard on the radio this morning that each story was approximately 1/2 square acre. so, that's over 50 square acres of area, occupied by people, furniture, and an immeasureable amount of steel and glass.
i can't get my head around it. don't know if want to.
