While in Staples today to get a Surge Protector I noticed that in the display for the Curtis "Power-7" unit there were actually two different models on the racks. The one that is listed on the price tag is the model #SP700-7T price $19.99. This unit has 1240 Joules of energy dissipation, rated current 15 amps, 1875 watts and has a single line phone protector and is wall mountable. I have other Curtis models and I like their design, it has room for those damn adapters and sits upright instead of laying flat on the floor. And they have lifetime warranty for connected equipment ($35,000 on this model)that does not preclude lightning strikes.(Many other brands (like Woods) specifically state lightning strikes are not covered).

The interesting part is that the other model that was mixed in on the same racks is model #SP700-7TE. This is the exact same unit as the SP700-7T with one exception, a longer power cord. The model TE has a 12 foot cord Vs. a 6 foot cord on the model T. I decided to get the TE as the longer cord may be necessary at some point even though I really don't need it now.

Okay, here's the deal part:
One of the items I got today had a rebate on it (who would have thought!) and while filling out the rebate form and circling the item and price on the receipt I noticed that the Curtis unit rang up for only $7.90 not the $19.99 as listed on the price tag. I don't know if the model 7T rings up at full price or not since I didn't go back to check it out. The SKU isn't on the receipts anymore but the UPC is 083495007068 and shows up as "7 OUTLET SURGE STR".

So if you need an extra surge strip you may want to stop by your local Staples store.

Addendum: I checked online, it shows the model SP700-7TE as SKU 432709 and the price is $19.99 (unless you buy 3 or more, then $19.39) so this is B+M only. Staples.com doesn't show the model SP700-7T at all.

Tried this yesterday in the Detroit area. Rang up at 19.99 so I put it back. :-(

Oh well, worth the try.
