View Full Version : What if the Extremists are right?

This is a very off-the-wall question and I'm sure regular readers are used to my posts of this nature, but for you new readers, please do not be offended.
----
What if the suicide bombers and terrorists are correct?
What if you really do get to Heaven (with or without virgins) if you commit and act like this?
Is this even the remotest of possibilities?
If you immediately say "no", then aren't you discriminating against another religion and saying that your world view is better than theirs?

although this is a "did adam and eve have navels" or "what if what i see as red, you see as blue" type of question, this is destined to get ugly reeeeal quick...
if they are right, then all our judeo-christian ideas of good and evil need a big ol' overhaul...
oh, and god is a big fat sexist on viagra.

If that is true, then all our values are wrong:
Equality for women.
(including education, dress, choice in marrage, where to live, the ability to walk down the street!)
Freedom of religion.
Freedom of speech.
(including press, verbal, dress, grooming and just about anything you can think of.)
No cruel or unusual punishment.
Fair trial for crimes
(jury of peers, presumption of innocence, proof beyond a reasonable doubt)
Choice.
Under our system, people can chose to do what they want, so long as it doesn't harm anyone else. That means that they can worship if they want. Under theirs, we have to worship how they want us to. How can that be true faith?
No, ask a real Muslim about these terrorist acts. They are not the intent of the Koran. Not the will of God.
I do not accept that they could be right to rule people with terror and hate. I hate too, but I do not mistake it for faith.

Standard disclaimer (don't mean to offend!) applies here as well:
What if the suicide bombers and terrorists are correct?
Well, TLG, to be honest, what makes my religion or yours more valid than anyone else's? Nothing really. All faithful or all religions believe that they are correct in they're beliefs and nothing anyone can do or say will convince them otherwise. I believe you've mentioned that you are Jewish. If I showed you what the general world community would call "hard scientific evidence" that Judaism (sp?) is a farce, would you convert? Probably not. Likewise for Christians, Muslims, etc. A religion is based on faith and a religion is also called a "faith" for precisely that reason--there is no "evidence" aside from assembled literature and anecdotes passed down through the ages. Think about this--why don't we worship Zeus or Odin or Osiris or any ancient "gods" anymore? Have they been proven not to exist? Nope. They just faded into something else. In ancient times, people were a lot more superstitious then we are now and they would use the supernatural as an explanation to events they could not understand. Those explanations evolved into crude religions, which further evolved through the ages. Don't forget that your (or anyone's) religion is thousands of years old and it just wasn't born one day, it evolved into its current state; but it's current state hasn't changed in centuries. None of us can fathom what it would be like to worship a different deity or in any other fashion than we've been raised to accept. That's fact. Another fact is we all can't be right. Think about that for a moment. Of all religions on earth, who is right? You think it's yours. I think it's mine. Now what?
What if you really do get to Heaven (with or without virgins) if you commit and act like this? If my religion called for me to do that and I were faithful and 100% sure my religion was the "one true one", I probably would. BTW, Islam does not state you should be killing yourself and taking others with you. Don't believe me? Read the Qu'ran.
Is this even the remotest of possibilities?
Of course it is. If I'm just .000001% in doubt of my religion, then it's a possibility.
If you immediately say "no", then aren't you discriminating against another religion and saying that your world view is better than theirs?Define "discrimination". In the context of religion, am I discriminating against you because you're Jewish and I don't believe in your religion? No, I'm not, I simply believe that you are wrong. If you believe that is discrimination, than the Coke and Pepsi wars have just gone to a new level.

I know no one has stated this, but I wanted to be very clear.
I did NOT attribute the terrorist/suicide bomber motives to Islam.
This is just as when the KKK perverts Christianity to suggest that it is ok to kill non-whites.
By perverting the religion, they are essentially creating a new one.
It was this "new one" that I was asking about.

Since you're asking about the "new" religion (or sect or cult or splinter-group)--they could be right. I'd really hate to think so. Heck, some people think L. Ron Hubbard is a god, too.
There's always a slick chance.

I always said that religion sucks, people use it to back themselves up in their wrong doings... I mean Jesus never said go out and kill anyone, Allah i bet never said go you and kill anyone... right?
Unfortunately because people follow religion and not god, sh*t like what happened 2 days ago happens
If you believe in god, believe in god and don't follow a religion, make it a intimate thing between yourself and the higher being.
