just curious about this. if they're unstable and prone to falling anyway, why not demolish them anyway? i would assume they could then have a little more direction in the way it falls.. or is that not possible?

Might be worried about more rubble on top of what you have now?
Might not beable to direct the fall in the right direction (away from the rescue area) due to structual damage already there?

i'm sure that they will, but i doubt that anyone has taken the time right now to decide which ones have been destabilized...

Right, but if the rescuers have to keep pulling out every time a subway train goes somewhere uptown, is there any rescuing going on?
I'm with you ironchef. I hope they aren't doing this to avoid rebuilding costs or something relatively trivial like that!

i'm sure this is it. all their resources will be on this for a week. then after that they will prolly figure that any survivors that were injured at all are deceased due to complications. one would hope that there will be a lot of reshaping in that immediate area for the next few yrs

how do you go about demolishing these buildings that are 50ish stories high?
a wrecking ball ain't tall enough. Dynamite??? i don't think so with people possibly still stuck in there..
there's no way to do it...they worry about that AFTER they get those 110 stories of rubble outta there, along with any survivors...

Besides, any building coming down in the next few weeks is another victory for the monsters who did this. Wait a bit and demolish them when we decide to "remove them to make way for the new complex".
i dunno. they can claim the same victory now or later. maybe we should let them have it now so they can gloat and let their guard down. besides, the faster that we can show them that we are getting back to business as usual, the better. we can show them our strength by shrugging this crap off. of course we will mourn first. then we will get the sob's that did this.

I'm sure the folks down there handling the rescue effort have thought of demolishing them. I guess they decided it wasn't the best call. There are still people who could be alive so like people have been saying, you don't want to make the pile of rubble any bigger.
These b@stards aren't going to be around later to gloat about anything except how big the missle was that blew their ass up.
Yeah, finding survivors first.
If anything else goes down, it'll shift evrything around again, maybe even killing buried ones

they have looked at the buildings and they figure then can stand freely for the time being
also they decided that survivors are a first priotiry because its too complicated to dictate the exact fall of the buildings and if one little thing goes, any possible survivors are burried under an extra 20 stories or rubble
