its news to me
CNN has learned that Pakistan will threaten massive military action led by the United States unless Kabul complies. U.S. President George W. Bush has characterized bin Laden as the "prime suspect" in Tuesday's hijacking attacks that left thousands of people dead or missing, toppled New York's World Trade Center and damaged the Pentagon.
The Pakistani government will ask the Taliban, Afghanistan's rulers, to hand over suspected terrorist Osama bin Laden in three days or face massive military action led by the United States, CNN learned today.
i dont know what to think.
I just heard on NBC that the US is opening talks with Iran - of all countries - to be part of the coalition against terrorism. The mayor of Tehran has sent an official letter of condolence to the mayor of NYC, Rudolph Giuliani. This kind of official contact has not happened since 1979.

I think that we should do this entire thing on our own. I think it is OUR tragedy, OUR problem and it will be OUR victory. There's really no need to get other countries involved. Except of course Pakistan as a front which we can attack from if indeed it is Bin Laden.

Except of course Pakistan as a front which we can attack from if indeed it is Bin Laden. We can't do this on our own. Whether we attack the Taliban from the air of the ground, we need permission from other countries to use their airspace. Pakistan, being one of only three countries to recognized the Taliban as the legitimate government of Afghanistan, undoubtedly has valuable intelligence information that they can share. And don't forget, it wasn't just American citizens that were killed in the attack - citizens of many other countries were in the WTC that day.
Also, there is NATO to consider. For the first time in history they have invoked Article 5, which essentially says that an attack on one NATO nation is an attack on all NATO nations. The nations of NATO and others are willing and able to help the US, and I think that to attempt to do this on our would make things far more difficult.

Before you vote to bomb the hell out of kabul, read the article I just posted. Ground troops seem to be the only way to do it, and it'l still take lots of time

I think some people have a problem diffrentiating between a country's politics and the people. Assuming bin laden did have something to do with this you need to understand that in a country which is NOT democratic the people have no say in what goes on and are in my opinion NOT responsible for the governments actions. If america wants to go to war, go for it, get the government and the people responsible but don't confuse the public as ones who are in charge.

Lest we soon forget, Pakistan is a NUCLEAR power that can't deploy them correctly (remember when the CIA and NSA both had no clue that they were about to launch/test their nukes?)
Be very careful with these people.

Don't be so optimistic, about victory. It is not easy, ever seen geographical map of those lands? Crazy, all mountains, and Afganians know that land. Russians tried to fight them for 10 years and no luck (and they had have a boarder) For Russians Afganistan was like Vietnam for US. So US better know what they are going for, before sending troops. On the other hand "North Allience" (the Taliban's oposition) also knows that place and they offered Americans help.

I agree with Hapoo, remember that the government controls what people see and hear in those countries, effectively brainwashing them to the point that they hate democracy. Get the government, get the terrorists, not the civillians and show those people what the true democracy is all about.
