**** that. Tell her "Thanks, but I've got lots of friends already."

Never fails to shock.

Say, "No, let's not" and walk away.

You can always say I have room to be friends with privileges! Either that or just decide whether she is important enough to keep in your life as a friend. Unfortunately, i have had a few of those "friendly" conversations and even given them. I was good enough friends with most of them and enjoyed their company enough that I tried to remain friends with them. However, with the exception of one (who was completely psychotic), I ended up becoming intimate with all of them over time. Just remember that after you take that step, there is no going back.

You actually think "Let's just be friends" is better?!?!?! It isn't! I'd rather have a massive, fiery break-up (the kind I specialize in!) than have a "I think you are really cool and I still want to be friends with you". The former makes me want merely never to see that person again. The latter makes me want to rip off their head and crap down their neck.

well, some of us don't like massive fiery break ups.

Fair 'nuff. But don't try and therefore claim that the "friends" gambit is because the person is too nice. It's purely self-preservative (is that even a word?).

:2far:

I always equated the "let's just be friends" speech with "go jump out a window." I've gotten it before, and it definately made me want to jump out a window.

Men say it too. It is the #1 suckage of all time
If a guy says that to me I just walk away
Crap on him. Being "just friends" is a bunch of BS.

You know why men hardly ever say that?

THEIR version of "Let's just be friends" is to stop calling one day and hope that you get the hint.

Not always. I have gotten that speech from a couple guys in my time. But yes the cowardly ones will just stop calling. I actually prefer that though. It's less awkward and humililiating. Although in one of those instances I mentioned I was glad to see the dork go. And recently another guy I knew stopped calling me and I haven't heard from in months. Another one I was glad to see go haha.

I got the "let's not be friends" speech yesterday, after actually trying to be friends with my ex. That one hurt even more.

what the hell happened there... let's not be friends, did you start a nuclear war against her family or something.

After we hung out once, she decided that she couldn't hang out with me as just friends. It was pretty awkward. What a waste of 2 years.

i once got "lets just be friends cause i'm still in love with this chick from high school" and then the arsehole actually thought he'd still have benefits. he almost got a bloody nose from that one.

Yea some guys don't want to be "tied down" but still want you around. Again, a bunch of BS.

I'm right there. I got it after my ex came back from a few months abroad. Absolutely ruined my summer.

We've been going back and forth: try and hang out, seperation, took a short trip together. Nothing's worked. Now I went and sent an e-mail I probably didn't mean (well, not all of it, certainly) and got the response I expected. Only it felt the total opposite from what I thought it would be...I expected cathartic, I ended up with regret. Damn! I hate it when that happens.

She's a great girl; the best one I've ever met. Now the question is do I expend more energy trying to work it out, or chalk it up to "Well, you got your shot, now it's time to look for plan B?"

Friends.
How many of us have them?
Friends.
Ones we can depend on?
Friends.
How many of us have them?
Friends.
Before we go any further, lets be
Friends.
