What do you guys think about todays trading? Seemed like a rush to sell off stock.

can't say it was unexpected. I mean if you noticed last week. Most of the Asian stocks went down because they were anticipating the US to do the same.

i was driving on my way to school, and the markets opened. in like 10 mins, it dropped 200 some points. it was crazy. coincidentally, i think traffic slowed down as well.

Traffic slowed down because everyone was on their cell phone dumping their stocks. :D And no, I was not one of them. I believe in the American stock market...and besides, I had already dumped them on instinet, ahead of all you poor slobs...

How interesting...

I have been called just about every name in the book on here and am regarded as the least patriotic, but I was the one who bought thousands of dollars of AMERICAN stocks today to help prevent the market collapse.

Thanks too all of you sellers, I am losing money, but hopefully I will make it up.

I picked up some GE today . . . Once some money clears in my account, I'll probably pick up something else . . . just not quite sure what yet though.

What you realy did was buy thousands of dollars of stock at fire sale prices. When we go to war the economy will recover quickly and the stock market will rebound big time. You will make a fortune.

Hey, it's the American way. But don't play the "woe is me" thing here. Not falling for it. You should have posted this in the deals section.

if i had some serious capital (which i obviously don't) i'd probably invest in some major contracting corp or major computer corp that would possibly get involved in the massive undertaking of rebuilding the WTC (of course, inside tips would be nice). then again, anything related in the production of war goods would be a good bet too i suppose.

oh yea, buy some airline and insurance stocks too!

I don't want to sell, cause if it comes back up I will be pissed. But if it crashes one of these days, there goes all my money. Yay.

It is my understanding that part of the drop was due to a backlog of sell orders that had accumulated over the past couple of days when the market was closed.

Depending on which "expert" you listen to, the market could do just about anything. Personally, if I had anything in the market, which I don't (because I'm broke as hell), I would hang onto it, with the exception of stock in the major airlines. With the uncertainty of their economic situation, I might jump off of those. Otherwise, I would stand fast. I tend to think that after today's selloff, the market will stabilize, and those who had their firesales today will wish they hadn't.

There's my opinion, which is free and worth the price.

dang - the stock i owned in Creative Labs that was worth ~$500 at $12 share is now down to $5 / share... so thats about $208... yay.

Oh well, my prediction (based on past performance) is that every 2 years Creative stock hits a new high. Last peak it hit almost $40 i think... I'm holdin' out for the next big peak. HEck, if it hits $20 i might sell.

of course buy the safer stocks. GE, walmart, microsoft, IBM, HP/compaq - those companies so huge they wont go away even if their stocks plunge.

exactly...with so many people buying, I've heard the market should be back to normal in a couple weeks..maybe even better with the recent 5% interest cut. But that's just what I've heard.

How can I get into buying stocks?

historically, the markets tend to increase in value in the months following crises and also recover most of the losses sustained immediately after the crisis after the first month.
