and how much they friggin cost? we went shopping yesterday to get a new suit for her for our honeymoon.

well, we went to nordstram's(sp?) 'cause that's about the only place that still has suits out. they want 80 fargin bucks for two pieces of fabric that might cover my left arm! $80! Insane. Do you women folk really buy this crap?!

no kiddin. i make do with old ones for as long as possible, cuz i hate to pay for a new one - even cheap ones are $40, and the dirt-cheap ones are like $20, but are either ugly as sin, ill-fitting, or made to fall apart instantly. so i generally get a speedo one-piece for like $40-$50.

well, what else are we supposed to do?

i didn't buy a new suit this year, i wore the same one all summer because i couldn't afford another nice one. and the one that i wore all summer i got last year, at half price for $70.

and i've never understood why as the amount of material goes down, the price goes up exponentially.

If you shop at Nordstroms you are asking to be mugged in the first place.
The prices they charge do not reflect the cost to produce the item, but the price that they believe they can get people to pay for them. The real cost has to be less than $5 per suit. The rest is all gravy.

If they are charging you too much for something, don't buy one, you don't really need one. They just tell you that do until you believe it.

What if the suits she has now have holes, stains and don't fit well?

We settled on a $40 jobber that was like 50% off. Still ridiculous.. I could buy two pairs of pants for that much

All I can say is that the last visit the chef's was full of sleepness nights. The noise coming from the bedroom..oh the humanity!!! J/K :P But on a more serious note if he doesnt start cleaning the cobwebs out of that wallet trying to get out of that swimsuit won't be a problem. :winkie:

I got a bathing suit at Hecht's for $80 2 summers ago, and last summer one at walmart for $30 haha. They are both really nifty. That was the only decent one I have ever seen at Walmart though. The rest of them look cheap and the material doesn't lay right.

all of my kid's clothes are either used, gifts, or 75% off at target. it's actually pretty easy to get em cheap, there's always tons on sale. i've never paid more than two bucks for anything he owns.

strike taht. i bought him a ten-dollar pair of khaki pants once cause he needed to at least LOOK decent.

you mean you can buy new clothes for kids? i thought all kids wore hand-me-downs from older siblings and used stuff from good will?

see, what's great about kids is that they have little fashion sense and will wear whatever maw or paw throws on their scrawny backs.. at least, that's what i did. mom dressed me like it was still the 70s.

That's until you hit junior high and realize how much your clothes suck. And then your mom takes you shopping for clothes and she's like "How about this one" and you're like "no", and she's like, "are you sure?" and you're like "Yeah", and she's like "I'm gonna get it anyway" and then she gets pissed when you never wear it cuz it's gay.

You think bathing suits are expensive? Try women's underwear... I once saw a pair of panties for $18!!! WTF!! Usually they are about $4 if you want something nice.

I bought two swim suits at Ross this year... anyone shop there? They're not in all states, but in quite a few. I got a Liz Claiborne suit for $25 and a Nautica suit for $20. WooHoo!

My parents dressed me like a color-blind clown. Any other kids wear orange tennies (and I mean completely orange) one year and then red tennies the next?

I didn't think so. :P

Ross is great :D, but I'm usually too impatient to spend an entire afternoon there.

My latest bathing suit was an Olympics-style one-piece from Mervyn's for < $20. It's BLUE so I love it! (All of the years spent in neon attire have driven me to a wardrobe of blue, white, and black.)

:heh::heh:

that sounds like every clothes-buying excursion i ever had with my mom until i was old enough to do it myself...

my kid is probly gonna be a little nerd that will fight me to get khakis and cardigans while i'm trying to buy him cool sh*t... just because that's what kids do.

when i was a lifeguard/swimming teacher at a highly chlorinated pool, i used to go through about 3-4 suits every summer. my work would only pay for 2 of them, so i had to spend about $90. Of course, the suits weren't fashionalbe- they were red speedo racing type suits. now that i no longer work at a pool, i still can't help buying racing suits instead of fashion type suits. i usually buy them when they have the end of the summer sale at mvp for $20-30
if i'm at my parents, i just swim in shorts and a t-shirt tho. thats the easiest.

I like Ross the only prob is you can't be looking for a specific thing. You never know what they are going to have. You can get department store tops there for under $10 it's great. And I get designer shoes there for $10-20, and I got tommy hilfiger sunglasses for $20 and tommy capri pants for $25, which is cheap for TH. Yay!
