The ASCII number is followed by the character that appears in .HLP files and other Windows files. Note that a few characters MAY appear different on your Web Browser than on the Help File, but this will give you an idea of what the program is like.

I have a nifty freeware program named AllChars which allows you to easily enter optional characters such as ¢ ½ ¼ ? § as well as international accents, etc. Very handy. It is available from http://allchars.zwolnet.com/

The ASCII set can be different on every computer. It depends how your computers is made from the manufacturer. All the characters are the same, but the numbers can differ depending on how they choose to number (i.e. -128 to 127 or 0 to 256, or any other way).

I've never heard of -128 to +127 ASCII set

You've probably never heard of 0 - 256 either, since 256 is too big. Rather than overload anyones capabilities, it's better to limit it to 0 - 255. Of course, then there's unicode....

No. By using Windows's Character Map (a program not installed by default in at least Windows98, but installable off the CD in the Accessories setup part of Add/Remove), you can derive the four-digit code that you can enter while holding down the Alt key to get it to appear, however.

I think some typewriter/word processor models from the early 90's had the cent sign.

Okay, now I feel old. :P
