I've used Rayovac Renewal and Eveready brands and they've been good. Make sure you buy enough to keep using while the others charge. Good call on the rechargeable, you're saving money (hopefully) and the environment.

Also Radio Shack has some decent ones (my dad uses them). Try to get batteries that can be charged on other brands of chargers and a charger that supports other brand batteries. That way you can change brands when you find good deals. Not sure if most do that now, but back in the day the maufacturers bound you to their products (sneaky bastards).

Get some decent NiMH rechargables. They are MUCH better than NiCad, and also have better capacity. The better AA-size are something like 1600 ma.

The recargable is on nomad and when I used it I would just put it back on the docking station every night, I never let it drain all the way...

but it realy depends on the device and the usage to determain how long the charge will last....
