I wouldn't think any good feelings would come over you while there. I wouldn't know what feeling to hone in on. Blaah is probably how I would discribe it too. I wish I could go there and help the clean-up. I just don't know if I could handle some of the things I would find in the rubble.

They don't allow anybody to get really close to that scene, the closer you can get is one block away. But that is close enough to see the terrible views. I was driving on the BQE today, and where there used to be a GREAT view of the twins, now nothing. It is sad, and you can see, people stopping and looking at where it used to be the bulidings, in some kind of hope to see them again. Hope that it was only dream. And now we are awake and safe. But, unfortunatlly ... it is not there. And just another prove is the military tracks on the roads of NYC. :( :bawl:

You've been able to get to Broadway and Liberty since Wednesday and although most of us have that "streak" where we'd like to get closer, that's entirely close enough. If you walk a little further north on Broadway (Cortlandt St.), you are struck by the view of seeing straight through to the World Financial Center (no towers blocking the view). Working in lower-Manhattan, being there that day and seeing the second plane strike the Tower from my office, if I live a thousand years, I do not believe I'll ever see anything so tragic and grotesque.

My mother met a guy yesterday who went looking for his cousin. She's 27 and worked one building over from the WTC. They found her and all she does is sit and stare into space. She must have witnessed things that only war veterans see. Sometimes things like that drastically affect the rest of your life.

Yup same thing faither, I had classes that day and saw it all, unfortunatelly, right after the first plane hit the towers ... and then hell. People jumping out of the building, people crying around. Second plane hit, the first building colapsing ... lack of oxigent.

Speaking of that!! I would like to thank GotApex, when the first tower colapsed. And the area was full of dust and ash, I had a t-shirt, that I once ordered from G|A. I ripped it on a few pieaces to share with other people, as a mask. Unfortunatelly, when we got to safe place, my part of "mask" was taken from me :(

I live in Westchester Co. NY and although I could travel "15mi's" to ground zero, I have no intention to get in the way of the slow but steady progress of relocating those who live in the area. God knows I'd really like to take a look but honestly I could never sleep well knowing that I had been another one of the people that got in the way of the progress of the attempts to find remains of our country's saddest casualities.
I hurt in a way that I could never put in words when I think about what these people go through, I visit my son's grave and pray my baby has learned enough in heaven to help all these misplaced souls !

They gave me another t-shirt and took what was left from my t-shirt from me. I at first did not realise it.

Actually, there are a lot of people with cameras, with flags and such. And that is good for surrounding bussineses. A lot of small bussineses are still close, and I am sure a lot of them will be out of bussines if not for the tourists. It does not seem like officials or construction workers mind people there. You can't get closer then east side of Broadway. (only if you permited).

I still don't understand. they took your shirt, and gave you another one.. why because the one u had was all messed up or something?

And Sir_Froggy I believe he was meaning he was at the site of the WTC not the actual building, since it no longer exists...

ok let me explain what he said

he and a couple of other people were trying to get away from the site however it was hard to breathe, so he riped his shirt and gave the people pieces of his shirt, som they can cover their face and breath through it(like a filter/mask)... and then the people gave him a new shirt.

And yea when we were at the site, my girl calls me and i am like yea i'm here at the wtc and she is like so how do they(force of habbit) look... so im looked at it and i said : "Broken, gone, not there".. and then it really hit me that they really are not there... it was a very bad, nausiating feeling

ok I got the he ripped his shirt so others could have mask/filter things (totally understood that, and totally commendable BTW). I guess the part I am have a problem with is he said someting to the effect of they took my shirt, and I was wondering why people would take someone's shirt..

OK I feel dumb now... I was thinking he was ripping in like little pieces, he must have been ripping a lot bigger than I figured.. ok.. I think i got it now.. hopefully

I've never been to NYC, but that must be totally horrible....
