View Full Version : recommendation for WOMEN'S Tennis raquet

Hi my friend is asking me to go with her to buy a new tennis raquet. It's her first time playing, so she probably doesn't need something great, but she's willing to spend enough money to but one that has good quality and will last a long time. Any recommendations? thanks in advance.

Does depend on your price range but I've always been satisfied with the Wilsons I've bought (in all price ranges). A friend of mine has had bad experiences with Head Titanium racquets. He broke two frames in one year. But he is a powerful hitter, so that may not be an issue with a beginner. Even so, I wouldn't personally recommend Head (though the next 10 people might swear by them). I've heard good things about Prince racquets, but I have little first hand experience with them.
Fogdog (http://www.fogdog.com) and Tennis-Warehouse (http://www.tennis-warehouse.com) have decent selections. That should at least get you started. Unfortunately, being from Canada, I can't recommend a B&M store to actually make the purchase. In Canada, I'd recommend Sport Chek or Sport Mart.
Two other things:
1) Make very sure she gets the right grip size. Measurement is described better here (http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/Features/Gripsize/Gripsize.html) than I could.
2) Definitely get a vibration dampener. It's only a couple bucks, but it's worth its weight in gold to a beginner.
