This has really been bothering me lately.
CNN is an American news network that is seen around the world. Many people from around the world get their impressions of us, as Americans, from what they see on CNN. While watching CNN's politically correct blend of international talking heads last night I got the impression again and again that CNN's message to the world is that we (America) is/are the aggressor in the current events going on around the world. While I would agree that we are indeed the catalyst in the "War on Terrorism", I believe that we are jointly involved in the endeavor with every civilized nation worldwide.
As an indication of this attitude of CNN take the fact that they are reporting that the UAV that the Afghans' are claiming that they shot down was a CIA operation. The other US TV networks, including Fox News Channel, have reported that the claims are false. The other networks have reported that the Afghans' also claimed that it was a
helicopter that was shot down, or maybe a UAV, and that the US government has denied these claims. But according to CNN, it was a CIA UAV because the US government is not commenting on the Afghans' claim. Why is it that the US government is on record as denying the UAV incident to every network except CNN? Maybe it was an American UAV that was shot down or maybe it was just another unsubstantiated rumor, of which many have been reported as fact in the last 2 weeks. I find it totally irresponsible of CNN to continue to report their
suspicions to the rest of the world as if they were facts.
This brings me to the reason for this message, I personally find it offensive that CNN has labeled this worldwide attack on terrorism as "AMERICAS' NEW WAR". This slogan is plastered on CNN's screen on every report daily to the whole world. I feel that this only feeds our enemy's position that this is just another in a string of America's aggressions against the "poorer, little" nations of the world. Never mind that these "poor little" countries have condoned and even assisted in the worst case of mass murder to occur within the borders of our country, this is just America's New War. Today CNN reported that this New War was likened to the American Civil War and the American Revolutionary War. I know what you're thinking, and I have no idea what they meant either, because with the exception of Americans having died on our home soil I see no other likeness to this current situation.
CNN is an American network. I believe they have a duty to report the news that affects Americans and the rest of the world responsibly, backed up with facts, and to protect OUR national security even if it means NOT reporting certain events (like the travel plans of our president during an attack against our country or the plans of our military and intelligence agencies in combating this threat). Again I find it offensive that CNN will report as fact news items based on their conjecture, innuendo, rumors and CNN's own personal feelings on the current administration.
If you agree with me on any of these points, I urge you to click the link below and tell CNN what you think. The link will take you directly to CNN.com/feedback. Under "Subject" choose "Criticism" and tell CNN that this is not "America's New War", this is the Free World's War against Terrorism. We are not in this alone and CNN is not the only news network. Maybe the rest of the world has to rely on CNN for their worldly news, but we can choose to turn them off, and maybe they should be reminded of that fact.
