....collecting unemployment even tho i don't really qualify for it anymore?

cause i'm in school full time now, so when it asks the question "are you willing and able to work" the answer is sorta no, because i can't work in the same capacity as i did when i was originally unemployed.

plus, the labor department office i reported to was next to the wtc, so i'm not sure if them checking on eligibility is really a priority right now. actually, the building i think collapsed.

but anyway, i really need the loot, and i still don't have a job, and i haven't collected anything in 3 weeks. so whaddya think, should i risk it? & i'm not really sure what would happen if they did find out. i think i would just loose my eligilbity for it in ny. which isn't that big of a deal, cause i live in nj.

i wouldn't do it. they don't generally check, but there are a lot of other people in NY who really need that money now. by becoming a student, you have declared a self-induced poverty... you just gotta live with it and love it! ;)

If you are caught doing this, I suspect that you could be convicted for fraud. To try to prevent this kind of thing, I expect that the penalty would be more than "no more unemployment". You could be risking some $$$ (likely the amount they feel you collected fraudulently plus a penalty).

unemployment is paid for by me and my (former) employer. its not as if if i don't collect, there is going to be more for the next person. plus, i've been trying to find a job, and there is none. any of the jobs that i could do are service oriented, and there aren't any available. people are losing those jobs, too. and i'm not talking about living in luxury, i'm talking about paying rent and having enough money to take the train to school.

i don't see where this is fraud. doesn't ny have one of those things that allows training while you collect benefits? if you're training to make yourself more eligible for a job, it doesnt exactly mean that you need to accept poverty. actually, collecting unemployment pretty much keeps you in poverty anyhow, so nemmine.

at any rate, that is my take. i would go for it (of course i would look into it to make sure it's at least kinda on the up-and-up). cuz those other people that need it would go for it too. it's not charity...it's a benefit

yah, cause its so easy right now to do that, right?

and because i'd make SO much more money collecting unemployment then getting an actual job.

and btw, i searched for a job for 3 months. i decided that if i didn't find a job by the beginning of aug, that i was going back to school. if i had found a job, i'd be working right now. duh.

sorry, i dint know exactly how unemployment payments work. i just wouldna guessed that that it was only you paying for it. so if absolutely nobody else is going to get hurt at all, and you don't feel bad about screwing your former employer, take it. if you feel entitled to it, take it. you're not gonna get caught, so just do it. i don't care whether you use it to buy caviar or basic essentials. no need to justify it to me, i was just offering my opinion. you're entitled to ride the train, and you can't ride the train without it, by god, it's your piece of the pie, so go git what's yours.

It's people like you that force us to pay higher taxes..

if nobody cheated the US govt', maybe Bush's tax plan would actually work!!!
