Most hated sports team

Now that sports are back in full swing who do you think is the most hated team in all of sports. I would personally go with the Yanks.

I would have to say the new Yanks, not the badass Yanks from yesteryear. Is it really worth the risk of ruining baseball forever by buying themselves a championship?

In football, it has to be the Raiders. The team is ok but the fans are the worst in football. If you ever wondered what happened to the Hell's Angels after the 70's, watch a home Raider game on Sunday. There you might find the missing link, as well.

I'll say in advance that I don't mean anything personally by the teams that I cannot stand. I say that they are hated because they are rivals, but outside the game I respect that the fact that the fans are loyal to their teams.

Being a Cleveland fan, I would have to say the Yankees, the Bulls, and the Steelers. Also, Michigan and Xavier are my college foes. In hockey, it's the Avalanche (Wings fan here).

dude... the fans are what make the raiders so much fun. Ever see that game between raiders and... chargers i think... where the raider fan stabbed a charger fan on live tv while the camera man was panning the fans?

I think Stealers got the worst fans in the NFL, its the only stadium that I know off that has a courtroom in the basement.

Oh, definitely the Yankees, with a strong showing by the Knicks and Cowboys. Both New York teams get overrated by SO much because they play in the media capital. Marcus Camby for Defensive Player of the Year! Allan Houston for the Dream Team! Derek Jeter is the greatest shortstop of all time! Yay for Paul O'Neill! It makes me sick to my stomach...

And two words about "America's Team": Michael Irvin. Now I love a good showman as much as the next guy, but when you're still doing that first down thing when you can't see straight because of either a) a huge blow habit or b) severe concussions, you just look like a tool.

As for worst fans, everyone knows the Philly fans would kick the crap out of the new generation of Raiders fans, and pick their teeth with the Cleveland Dawg Pound. Remember the ice ball incident of '96, when Philly fans gave four members of the opposing team concussions by firing ice balls from the stands? Or when they cheered Michael Irvin being knocked silly by the 12th man (i.e., the turf at Vet Stadium)? Or when they almost stormed the stage after drafting Donovan McNabb over Ricky Williams? Or...ah, you get the idea!

Now I have a question, are we picking the most "hated sports team" or are we picking the most "hated sports team's fans"? Because it seems that most of you hate the fans. I haven't hear much about why you hate the teams.

NFL: Personally, I don't like the Cowboys because I dislike the players. Specially Michael Irvin and ex-cowboy Deion Sanders...the list goes on.

NBA: Lakers, simply because they get away with too much crap on the court. Rockets because they aren't any good and have "whinning" Francis which I dislike. Heck I don't like anyone in that team.

NHL: Stars, overated...and they beat my Sabres in the finals a few years back. Very questionable goal...

MLB: Don't really follow it much, but have a distinct dislike of the Braves...I guess its cuz they keep taking everyone else's players.

Yankees are EVIL! I hate them! Of course, being raised around Boston, thats really the only way to live.

For football, I hate the Steelers. I was indifferent until I lived in Pittsburgh, then I grew to hate them.

For hockey, I hate the Devils. Don't know why, but I do. I think its because in my mind, I always see the game where some Devil took out Cam Neely and f***ed his knee up again.

As a lifelong Packers fan, it's gotta be the Dallas Cowboys.

The Bears and Vikings I can at least respect, even if I dislike them. But for raw hatred, no one beats the Cowboys.

For footbal I would have to say the Redskins. No other NFL has ever blown so much money on players only to finish second to last in their devision. Plus I am a Dallas fan, and to have lived in the DC area and liked the Dallas Cowboys is like having a death wish. Forget about all the problems the Cowboys had with their personel, everybody has a few bad apples (maybe Dallas has a lot of bad apples)and remember that they are the Team of the 90's.

anyway, being from pittsburgh, i'm a huge steeler's fan...and i must say, we're worthy of your hatred. steelers fans party from 8am until 10pm for noon games. it's madness. the parking lots are better than most parties.

and once you get a bunch of die hard blue collar football fans drunk, watch out...now, they're no raiders fans (those guys are nuts!) but they're still pretty wild in their own right.

I can't think of any team more universally hated than Duke basketball, except maybe the Flyers of the 70's or the Miami Hurricanes of the mid-late 80's.

I'm from the bay area and there are only two teams that are really hated up here: the LA Dodgers and the Dallas Cowboys.

Early 90's Canes were pretty bad. Vinny Testaverde showing up in those fatigues was downright comical. But at least they've had a lasting impression on the game in general: even today, whenever a player makes a big play, notice that he runs a good 10-15 yards away from the play so the camera is focused on him as he does his sack/touchdown/interception dance.

Hey, McMahon definitely had a personality (which is the reason that the other big personality [Ditka] couldn't stand having him around), and he wasn't a great QB, but one thing he knew how to do was to lead the team on the field.

Hehe you figured me out. The only game of the year that I would enjoy safely from the comfort of my home is the Chargers-Raiders game. Although last year when the Raiders got spanked by the Ravens in the playoffs, I had the pleasure of watching it at a Fridays in LA. The faces(painted) of frustration and anger were enough to last me for the rest of my life :)

From my unique perspective (I am a sports writer) these are the most hated teams I'd choose:

NFL: Cowboys, more so when they used to be good! The Vikings are starting to climb the hated ladder.

MLB: Many do hate the Yanks, but they're only jealous. :-) But the Braves and Dodgers are pretty well covered as far as being hated. Sheffield doesn't help. Braves are become more tolerable since they traded John Rocker.

NHL: Believe it or not, the old Bruins were hated like heck. Other than that, I don't really see a strong current hatred.

NBA: Lakers, Lakers, Lakers, Lakers. Shaq gets away with ridiculous on court action that no one else would.... BS...
