man...
I bought one of those spring traps..and I cought the mouse that was running around in my kitchen..
BUT.
it was just a little baby thing...:(
I felt so bad...and it cought it by the leg :(
so it wasstill alive!!! :bawl:
man, the only way i could figure out to kill it quickly was to stuff it into a ziploc bag, to suffocate it....anyone else have a good/quick/painless/humane way of killing trapped mice????

I once had an exterminator suggest dropping the trap upside down in a bucket of cold water. Probably a little quicker than suffocating in the ziplock. Also good for the case where you are using sticky traps.
Any mouse in my house deserves such a fate.

this takes a bit o balls, but the proper way to do it quickly and humanely is to break their necks - lay a screwdriver flat across the neck and press. it's hard to do to rats, but mice don't take much muscle.
it always sucks, tho. i know how you feel. :(

Well i shot them with my BB rifle, if you don't have a bb rifle, but you have a microwave that you don't need... you can get quite a show, also for a show take a seringe and if you know your biologiy insert an air bubble into a vein or into the heart of the mouse...hmm on the other hand you did say not painful.
So that kinda cancels the ziplock bag, i say either put it under the wheel of a car or throw it outside, some cat will get it... hmm CAT... twilight we got a job for your kitty

oh, and i'm not saying the suffocation was bad... that's the second choice. it's what i had to do to rats since i dint have the muscle to do the neck thing.

The bucket of water sounds the most humane. That way atleast he can get a little death dream. Peace out mickey!

If the break-neck method is too difficult, just :smash:
If I think I might have a mouse problem, I leave out some food for them in special trays made by D-Con. :naughty:

My friends mom is an animal rehabilitator, and she uses dry ice and a small styrofoam box to put small animals down.

When we would buy mice and our snake would refuse to eat it for whatever reason, We would put it in a baggy and freeze it. It sufficates, but it is more like they fall asleep.

Ether or chloroform is a quick and easy way to put it to sleep, if you've got it around. Otherwise, the best way is just to whack it on the back of the head with the back of a screwdriver or something. Knock it out quick.

You ever heard of bubonic plague? They're mice! Not exactly an endangered species.

Humans aren't endangered either, and they carry some pretty nasty diseases too. You going to use this excuse in NY?

Funk letting live in prision.. they are supposed to serve life... funk that noise kill that (cuse me) rat (ok done) bastids :)

HEY its called survival of the fittest.
If those mice didnt want to be frozen, stepped on, smashed, suffocated, nuked, or otherwise unhumanely killed for the purposes of the entertainment of a superior species, they shoulda evolved like the rest of us.

I just caught two mice this week on one of those sticky traps. I used a small grabber (looks like a throttle cable with a spring device and prongs at the end). I then immersed the whole trap and the mouse in the toilet till it died.

we're not ALL sick. sometimes it is better for the mice to die than to live. some of us were simply suggesting the nicest way to get from alive to dead.

Wow! It's only taken 30-something posts to get back to my original suggestion! :)
I like the toilet variation - no cleaning up the bucket afterwards. :D

I know immagine starving to death and getting dehydrated, i say if you want it to die painfully just stick it in the microwave painful but not that long... it's a pain to clean up afterwards though

at least squirrels is good eatin, if you can get em young enough that they're not impossible to skin or chew.
i mean, mice are really easy to skin and all, but it's kinda tedious work for half a mouthful... :munch: :lick:

How do you mean? I have no intention of setting deadly traps for people in NY, so I have no reason to give excuses.
I think someone is suffering from a little case of the White Guilt. Perhaps a little direction in life and a break away from Salon.com and the Northeast academic environment in general will cure you of any delusions that pain and suffering is something that can be avoided altogether.

remember those days as a kid...sticking baseball cards on the fork of your bike with a clothespin, so it would rub along the spokes and sound like an engine...
ohhh...we're trying to kill a mouse here...my bad, i wasn't paying attention
don't be a wuss...just fush it, stomp it, or put it in a baggie. c'mon you were going to kill it with a spring loaded trap...what, it's easier to kill it when you don't have to watch it die? out of sight out of mind? either way you're killing a mouse, either indirectly or directly...it's all the same.

They make live traps that are a tube that is at an angle, and when the mouse goes in to get the bait, the trap tips and the door closes, and it can't get out. Hard to explain.

There's always mice out in my shed trying to build a nest in the engine of my riding mower. I get at least one of those little shiats a week. If you want to be "humane" and trap them live that's OK, but a few less mice here or there are not going to kill their entire species. Personally, I think glue traps are cruel--if you're going to kill something, do it quickly. One time my mom had a mouse trapped with a glue trap for 3 days in her garage, I had to smack it with a shovel to put it out of its misery.

Yea my mom caught a mouse and it stayed there for like 5 hours, cause my moms didn't want to touch it, so i came home and the poor little thing is screaming... so i looked at it, felt sorry for it, and then killed it with a hockey stick... moral of the story is, if you are caught in a glue trap don't scream or i will kill you with a hockey stick

personally, i think putting a mouse out of its little, miserable, meaningless life is more humane then anything. Besides... these suggestions for a short painless death are probably a lot quicker and painless than a death that the mouse will probably have if you let it go.
