Just got my inspiron 8100 3 days ago, and I am happy with it so far except for one thing. When I play a 3d games there is extreme dithering. It looks like it is playing in 256 colors, but the game is set to 32 bit color. This happens with all 3d games... counterstrike, wolfenstein test, quake 3, red faction...

Does anyone know of a way to correct this. I have tried setting the desktop resolution to the same resolution as my game, but this doesnt seem to help.

Thanks in advance,
Brian

Ah the joys of lcd's. Thats the price you pay for thin, bad refresh rates unless if you got the dough. But yeah, your problem ain't really fixeable besides outputting to a regualr crt. The dithering is from very very very looooow refresh rates.

um.. this laptop wasnt cheap. almost $3000 to be exact. I have found it doesnt dither as much if I set the resolution to 1024x768. Anything higher than this dithers.

Uhm not crapping on you or anyone, if anyone on myself. But a GOOD LCD with high refresh rates is gonna run ya over $10k minimum. I have yet heard of a laptop with a high or "regular" refresh rates of crt's. Thats all I was saying. The dithering may also be contributed to the fact if you run the resolution out of the lcd's native resolution. Since lcd's technically can only display one resolution, the rest are calculated by some algorithm I believe, that can also contribute to the dithering. Again I release you spent a lot of doh on your system and did not mean to crap on you. Its just good lcd's cost the big bills. Thats one of the reasons why many gamers still stay away from laptops as a solution for a lan box even.
