Networking Problem

I have 2 computers connected to my SMC barricade 4 port router (SMC7004BR). But for some reason on both computers they are not connecting to the internet the first time i start them up. What I have to do is turn the router off and then on, sometimes that will get the computer on the internet, but if that doesn't work I have to restart the computer and that usually gets me connected to the internet. Does anyone have any ideas, this actually happened to another router I had (d-link model) and I had to go through the same procedures. I'm running windows 2000 on one machine and windows 2000 advanced server on another one.

next time it isnt working go to choose RUN from the start menu and type ping 192.168.2.1 (or if you changed the routers IP put that in but 192.168.2.1 is the default I think). If it says Reply from.... three times then you will know that the router and computer are talking ok. If it says that the request timed out then there is something messed up between the comp and router. Let us know, and maybe it will give someone an idea for you.
