My Fiance has a Compaq Pressario laptop (1640) which has been giving us headaches for a while. The computer first stopped charging about a year and a half ago. We assumed that the charger was shot, so we ordered another one. So, after a few weeks and many phone calls to Compaq, we finally got a charger and the computer started to work again for about 7 months. After that the battery registered as only having a 40% charge at most, then a 30%, then 10. Easy fix...get a new battery that doesnt have any memory. (Even though the battery was supposed to be memory free.) Funny thing is, even though it registered as only 10% it still lasted for 3 hours of heavy use. However, the battery wouldnt charge even when plugged in (it wasnt registering as being plugged in) The only way it would charge is if we pulled it a bit to the right, but even this wasnt fool proof. Now the male part of the adapter (in the computer itself) has apparently fallen off. There is no way to charge the computer and its useless. I have already tried to pull it apart before but ran into difficulties. ANyone have any clue how I could fix it. For whatever reason I cant find any releases, screws, etc. To remove half of the case.

Thanks in advance.

Only way is send it back to compaq. . . er hp to get it fixed. Laptops are pretty much too customized for anyone to fix unless if they have a strong background in electronics. Hopefully that sucker is still under warranty. . .
