i'm taking suggestions. i can't find anything that i would consider "soothing." i ate four chocolate chip cookies, and somehow, that wasn't it.

Flat Coke, dry white toast, crackers, chicken broth, tabasco sauce.

I take that the discussion on Sliders didn't prompt any ideas? :D

On a serious note, sometimes 7-Up hits the spot for me when my stomach is messed up.

i can't do sugar, otherwise ginger ale or 7up would be a good idea... and i don't wanna run to the store, anyway...

Then I'd go with the chicken noodle soup. However, the suggestion above of Tobasco?!!?

Seeing the current Altoids thread reminded me of something else that I can like at times: peppermint tea.

pepto is the bomb...then i'd say something easy like mashed potatoes...stay away from grease and sweets.

i usually grab a box of crackers and go to town when i'm feelin yukky

eh, well...

a few minutes ago, the list of titles of the forum read:
what do you eat when your stomach is in knots
the $6 burger at carl's jr

(one thread right after the other).

I think a lot of meat would hit the spot :)

After a relly nasty case of food poisoning, my wife's doctor put her on what's called the BRAT diet. Bananas, Rice, Apple Sauce and Toast. Along with fruit juice or water this should make for a trouble free diet 'til your tummy clears up.

A good cup of hot tea or some sprite for me. I love tea. Not the Lipton crap, but real loose tea. Yum. Hope you feel better. You can always go to the sure-fire Pepto.

on a serious note:

milk shakes usually help settle my stomach

BrewMaster

this is gonna sound weird, but those little lychee jello things settle my stomach really well. any flavor will do for me as long as they are nice and cold.

One more: Club soda with a few shakes of Angostura(sp?) bitters--it's used in a few cocktails. You'll find it in the drink mixers section of your local grocery store. Has alcohol, so don't go overboard! The combination got me through many an upset stomach.

Yea. I think it is the combo of the fiziness and lemon. Lemon/lime stuff settles your stomach. I used to be a huge soda drinker, but now the only time I will have 7up is when I am flying on a plane. My stomach really gets in knots when I fly.

yea, sprite and 7-up will do, i usually try to take in a few deep breathes, that helps to settle the stomach.

oh yea, and the "pink stuff" is soooooooo bad for your stomach.

sharp pains in the belly, mostly stress i'm sure, and i seem to be getting a cold on top of that, thankfully quite mild. no kissing for me tonight (unless i can cover up the sniffles and later claim "nope, wasn't me" when the kissee gets sick...) :D

ArkiStan

*hint hint* having your belly kissed always seems to soothe any inner pains. And there's less of a possibility of cold infection.

Stomach in knots? Try the persian remedy:
1. Boil 2 cups of water
2. Add 2 or more tablespoons of mint
3. Add a handfull of crystal sugar, i doubt you have any so just add sugar.
4. drink a cup
5. Call me in the morning :)

what is it about home remedies that seem so appealing (or more so than OTC's)

well with home remedies you get the added conditioned comfort that came along with the remedy when your mom/dad/etc gave it to you.

If you are only going to drink a cup, why start with 2 cups of water? Sounds wasteful. :) Actually, sounds close to my earlier recommendation of peppermint tea.
