they have that pic in motortend. they also had apicture of the convertible. That looks good compared to it in a ragtop.
I live right by the daimler technology center in auburn hills michigan, and when the pt first came out, they had like 1/2 of the sckyscraper covered in a giant billboard for that. it was sooo tacky. I hate that damn thing.
Just wait for an aztek with woodgrain sides. somebody shoot me know.

I give Chrysler credit. They are bringing out innovative vehicles, much unlike the bland look-alike cars and trucks from the rest of the industry.

Shoot me now, but I kind of like the regular PT Cruiser. The wood paneled one has to rank WAY down there with the Aztek, though (which is just plain UGLY).

I wholeheartedly agree. The first time (and every time since) I saw an Aztec I couldn't believe that they let that design go into production. Absolutely pure ugly.

dunno what u all are smokin but the pt cruiser loooks nice
as for the wood thing...yeah they've been throwing pictures of that around since it first started...and i thought it looked good, with the retro type thing..
and yeah, they have the ragtop thing as well...and also the 'flames' decals coming out of the wheels....they're trying to go really retro.
and i agree w/ mk...they've been putting out stuff that's different (hence their commercials :) dodge, different) and I think they're really cool

I think the only way I would buy one is from Hennessey. They shove a Venom 650R V10 Viper engine into a PT Cruiser and call it the PT Crusher. "A projected 0-60 mph time of under 3.5 sec is possible based on the sub 6:1 power to weight ratio" :D
Hennessey is great. They just take any car and put a Viper engine in it. :heh:
Wouldn't mind one of those V-10 Durangos, but then I look at the $110,000 price tag. :(

The PT Cruiser is front wheel drive. As far as I know, for durability, engine torque is limited to approx. 250 ft. lbs, because of the CV joints and associated hardware, This is the reason many vehicles went to all wheel drive.
So I doubt that you will see an 8 cylinder in the PT Cruiser. I doubt that it would fit anyway. The most you will see will probably be a turbo 4 cylinder.

That looks so horrible!
I thought I heard that that PT cruiser was nothing but a dodge Neon on a new body. Is this true?

Yes, the same platform. But this is nothing new. Car companies have been sharing frames and drivetrains for years . They just change the sheetmetal and the interior.
I believe that VW utilizes the same platform on quite a few of their models. And I read that some foreign consumers have caught on to this fact and are buying the cheaper versions (I don't recall which cars they are talking about).

Actually, I was talking with some Chrysler engineers at a job fair i was at last year, and they were saying they couldn't even fit a v6 in there...so....:(
but they will be putting a turbo 4 i think by next year.

That's why you have to do a little more than just drop an engine in.

Yes, shared platforms are extremely common
In Volkswagon Group, Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Rolls-Royce, Seat, Skoda and VW cars share many platforms.
If i'm correct, they have 16 platforms for 60+ models across all the company vehicle lineup. They plan to shave it down to nine
Audi A4, A6, and VW Passat are based on the same platform, for example.
Ford until recently, and GM up to now, does blatant cross-branding. I think Ford is in the process of cutting that down, and have tried to differientate their products. If I'm correct, within the next few years, vehicles in each of their product lines will be very different. Just like how the current european modeo and the upcoming Jaguar X-Type share the same platform, they supposedly have very different feel between them, as the majority of the parts in these two vehicles are still very different. GM, on the other hand, is still very incapable of creating product differentiation.
I think that term is called "Diving into the corporate parts-bin"
Anyways, enough babble.
