I'm sure most of you have had the pleasure of having really good friends in your lifetime. People who are genuinely concerned about your well-being and not just "fair weather" friends only concerned with themselves. I would like to dedicate this thread to them. Post here a little something about a friend of yours, and what makes them so special to you. and possibly if they have ever done something for you that was really cool.
I'll start it off. I have a pretty good friend, you guys/gals know him as mojorisin. The other night I was getting faded after seeing Rickey set the all-times run record (http://www.gotapex.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=31696&highlight=sports). I was hanging out with some cool people, one of whom was a super good looking woman. She was throwing me some good vibes, like real good vibes. Normally this would be a good thing, however I have a girlfriend. No we all know that guys are dogs, and in the past I have not been faithful to my other girlfriends, however this girl is different. I don't want to cheat on her. So at the end of the night after about 12 hours of partying, I'm chillin at this woman's house. Just me and her. Faded, no ride home, and already starting to regret what was certain to happen. I decided to check my email on her computer, and while I did that I logged onto my AOL IM real quick. Guess who's on? You guessed it, mojorisin.
I give mojorisin the quick details of what is going on. He knows about my girlfriend and he knows what she means to me. So, being a super cool friend, he offers to come pick me up. At 3:30 in the morning. Mojo lives like 1/2 hour from where I am, but he drives there anyways, picks me up and drives me back to my pad. I get home sometime after 4. My relationship was/is saved, thanks to him.
Yo mojo, you the man. Thanks again. I owe you yet another beer. Cheers buddy.

ah, a true friend does indeed c*ck-block for you whenever needed...
i wonder if i could get him to do the same for me... :D j/k
WTG Mojo, and you too EsDee, for not messin' up something good!
I have a friend who cooked me and my family dinner several times when I was in bed for 3 months while pregnant with my baby. My family or or even my IL who live 3 houses away never did a thing to help.

my friend Tak drove me around everywhere for a long time until i was old enough to drive / buy a car (my parents couldn't afford the insurance increase until i turned 18) and then when she got married, both her and her hubby help me w/ lost of stuff... Even helped me and my parents move when we finished the new house (he had a truck).

My very best friend is a male, and we've known each other since we were tiny tots. Even though he lives 200+ miles from me now, we are in contact every day via email, and we speak on the phone once a week.
I buy him tickets to the Giants and Bills games, and he gets me tickets for Notre Dame and PSU. We spend every Thanksgiving together at my house and every New Years Eve at his. We camp together EVERY summer (even if its only for a weekend-and sometimes we even go WITHOUT our spouses). No one gets jealous, and no one would ever would ever consider breaking up our friendship (even though his wife tried once - but has since come to her senses)...I'm godmother to his sons, and he is godfather to my daughters...just as it should be. I love this guy, and would do just about anything for him. And He introduced me to his fiance BEFORE she met his parents-so that I could approve of her..lol..Good friends are nice to have. :)

Well, I have a lot of good friends that have done a lot for me, but the one thing that sticks out in my mind is something that happened about 6 months ago. I was out with some friends, and I didn't have a car at the time. I got back to my room between 3:30-4 in the morning, and my grlfriend (who had gone to my room to sleep about 2 hours earlier) was laying on the bed, awake and crying. She said she had a very severe pain in her stomach, but she wanted to wait til morning to have one of her friends drive her to the hospital. I decided to ask one of my friends who had just gone to bed if he could drive us to the hospital. He said I didn't even have to ask. We got into the car and he drove us to the hospital.
On top of that, the visit took a little over 3 hours, and he waited until I called to come pick us up again. And then he offered to drive us and pick up her prescription!!
He's a great friend, one who thinks that being a friend means going the extra mile. Thanks man.

speaking in Christianese about friends...
More Than You'll Ever Know
from "All Things New"
written by Nathan & Christy Nockels
Somethin' brought you to my mind today
I thought about the funny ways you make me laugh
And yet I feel like it's okay to cry with you
Somethin' about just being with you
When I leave I feel like I've been near God
And that's the way it ought to be
'Cause you been more than a friend to me
You fight off my enemies
'Cause you've spoken truth over my life
And you'll never know what it means to me
Just to know you've been on your knees for me
Oh, you have blessed my life
More than you'll ever know
More than you'll ever know
You had faith, when I had none
You prayed God would bring me a brand new song
When I didn't think I could find the strength to sing
And all the while I'm hoping that I'll
Do the kind of praying for you that you've done for me
And that's the way it ought to be
repeat chorus
You've carried me
You've taken upon a burden that wasn't your own
And may the blessing return to you...
A hundredfold, oh yeah...
A hundredfold, oh yeah...

pretty. though it often sounds like pop or country, unlike those two genres, christian music tends to have consistently good lyrics. compare that to a song about friendship by n*suck...

yeah, lyrically, they're usually really good, though there have been REALLY REALLY cheesy songs that just makes me shake my head.... :disa:
:P
hmm... a whlie ago, my bf and my cousin and i were walking in the woods when i saw a grape vine that looked fun to swing on. the vine was hanging over a big gully too, which made it look even more fun. so i go over to it and grab on and jump off the edge of the gully, for some reason expecting not to go very far. but i ended up going half way across the gully with no way to get back. i was prob 10-13 feet off the ground, so i surely would have hurt something had i fallen. but my bf was there to save the day. he pulled the vine back and i was safe. yay!

you have a c*ck? whoa, what surprize *backs away*
anyways, my bestest buddies are the ones who have been with me through all my trials and tribs...but my friend in seattle stands out the most because he has repeatedly come through when i've needed him. and then there's my buddy here in chicago, cause he's got my back too, and then my female buddy i rely on for girlie advice and stuff down at (as welfare puts it) shampoo banana.

this one girl i know was at school in oxford for the year when my father died about 3 years ago. she decided to come home during her term two days after i had told her (and stressed that she not come back) helping me get through it all.
i thought so much of her, i decided to marry her a few years later :)
just recently, i was surprised with a bachelor party. though the true "goodness" of such a thing is certainly questionable, the thought that went into its planning and just the consideration to do it (i wasn't going to have one because my grooms guys are all up NJ with silly work schedules) definitely gives them all a big thumbs up in my book.
