would like?

What are your predictions?

I thought at first Detroit will get the cup, but after todays game, I have some doubts, maybe they need to play more together. Since they lost a lot of good players this year (even Kozlov). But got themselves Hashek.

Who else is there? Islanders look great this year, wooohooo. We'll see how it goes next.

GOOOO ISLANDERS!!!
I can finally come out of my shell and embarrasment of saying that I'm an Islander's fan!!! :) YAY!!!!!

Actually, for the past 4 years, being in pittsburgh, I'm rooting for Johan Hedberg to dominate....
and from my years in HS, when Islanders were no fun to watch, I'm still looking forward to the redwings/avalanche games.....awesome rivalry. :)

Hasek doesn't equal cup contention. He's a sissy. You can tell him I said that. He's a great goalie, don't get me wrong, but what a little Nancy-boy. "Ref, he was in the crease!" "Ref, he hit me too hard." And he's a waste if you score more than two goals on him.

I'm a Flyers fan. Now that Carl, er I mean Eric Lindros is gone, we can finally have a normal season.

FLYERS!!!!!!!!

although if their defense doesn't improve soon......

ug - they still look like the lindros flyers.

hasek and the red wings are the oldest team in the nhl this year. they are vetrans and can beat you 10 different ways. provided they can last that long.

it's still real early - some adjustments need to be made

Now, I'm a fairly open minded person, but everyone knows you need Canadians to bring home the bacon. Sure, sure, Europeans are all well and good when there's lots of room to make their nancy-boy dekes and jigs. But when the chips are down, you need the boys from up north to make the wheels go round.

Therefore, I'm going with the Stars. They got lots of nice Canadians, and enough Americans and Europeans to get a high seed in the regular season.

You want a Marty McSorely-autographed carbon shaft upside the head? Huh? You talkin' to me? You wanna go? Incidentally, the last phrase is sort of the de rigeur thing you say if you want to get into a hockey fight. I like it. Short, to the point. Everyone knows what's going on.

It's why we Canadians love hockey so much. No BS.

Pennypinch, no offense intended. It's just that the "excuse" you hear in the press here for the fighting in hockey is its Canadian origins, and such a "reputation" seems a bit incongruous with the term "nice Canadians". I can never feel too disappointed when a Canadian team "takes home the bacon" in hockey. Of course, on the other hand, I never want to see the World Series getting played "north of the border". :)

I used to be a RedWings fan, I mean I still like them, but now it seems like that is no other team to put against them.
I really like Islanders so far this year, plus Osgood is there, and I think he is a great goalie. About Russians in Detroit that is only 2 that are left, Fedorov and Larionov so it is not the same Russian five. Definitely Detroit is my team on the west (even though Hashek is a sissy, but great goalie). And Islanders on the east.
Flyers might have something coming for them, after Lindros left. And Penguins with out Jagr look much much better.
Todays game NJDevils vs. NYIslanders could be interesting, my favorite goalie (Brodeur) and NJ is a good team. I believe who ever wins this game will be the first to get to the playoffs from Atlantic Division.
Washinghton, Kozlik is great, and the teams looks fine. But i just don't like Jagr too much... so can't say anything good :)

The interesting event this hockey season will be the Hockey Olympic games, I believe there will be playing mostly NHL players, so that is going to be SOMETHING!

You 'mericans have pussified the sport almost beyond recognition!

By nice Canadian, I mean a badass mofo who'd crosscheck his grandmother to drink from Lord Stanley's mug.

You heard wrong. I believe each team as the league-regluated "Canadian bridge", one set of fronts for the Canadian boys to pass around during post-game interviews. Watch closely, sometimes you'll see an interview being conducted at the same time as another (i.e., while one of the other Canucks is using the team bridge!).

I was thinking more of some of the American players.

I remember about 15 or 20 years ago watching a Blackhawks game at the old Chicago Stadium. We had bought some tickets from a guy out front (who often was working some kind of a racket with the guy inside one of the ticket windows) who had someone's season tickets to unload. They were 3rd row blue line seats. From that close, you got a better idea of some of the gums that were in the player's mouths. Those were the days of Doug Wilson, Ben Wilson, Bob Murray, etc.

You lucky bastard. It was always a dream of mine to go to a playoff game in the old Stadium. Seeing Dougie Wilson and Denis Savard lining up on the blue line while the crowd brought the house down during the national anthem would have been awesome. :(

It wasn't a playoff game (but it was a game that got the Blackhawks into the playoffs). I remember that Al Secord had just come back from an injury, and all he was trying to do was start fights. Yeah, the old Stadium was awesome. And the anthem was awesome - there's a tradition of seeing how early before the end the crowd can drown out the singer. :D

Let's go Flames, let's go!

Seriously, the Calgary Flames have been playing some pretty good games this season, with 3 wins (2 of them being shut-outs), and 1 loss (in OT).

Things haven't looked this promising for the Flames in quite a while.

Don't talk crazy talk. Trading Bure was the death knell for that team. Cow Town is and always will be bush league! :D

Go Cannons! (Do you guys still have the Cannons?)

I don't think they will get far this year. Not that many decent players.

I smell a repeat for the Avs... Forsberg will be back, and even without him we will pull it off.

Though in the East I will rout for the Caps, since I can watch Jags in action now.
