It's a social outing for geeks. No really, it is when a bunch of computer gamers bring all their computers to one place.
They hook them all into a LAN and start playing multi-player games.
It is fun with the right crowd.
Important things to rember. Virus protection is esential. Bring headphones, extra kbd and mouse. Bring all your multi-player games and your OS disk and your drivers just in case. A few extra cables never hurt either.

well, for the larger gatherings, (i.e. organized gatherings) like the 50-55 person LAN we have in OKC, we all pay $10 at the door, and the OLP ( www.OkcLanParty.com ) provides softdrinks. Later, we can pitch in $5 and get 1/2 pizza.
proceeds (other than cost of drinks) go to local charities. That way we get the big room free fomr one of the malls in town. (by prommising and donating proceedes)

Depends on the party. Usualy it's pay at the door, or bring your own. All depends on who is hosting it.

You were right the first time.
