Oct. 12 — The Pentagon ordered a pause in bombing runs over Afghanistan Friday, in part to survey results so far as well as out of respect for the Muslim faith’s Friday prayers. The pause might also give Afghanistan’s ruling Taliban movement time to weigh President Bush’s offer Thursday that he’s willing to give them a “second chance” if they turn over suspected terrorist Osama bin Laden and his al-Qaida network.

Well, it's not exactly your typical kind of war.

I think the administration is trying to walk a very careful line to try to emphasize the "Anti-Terrorist and not Anti-Islam" message. Bin Laden and the Taliban are doing all they can to try to stir the Islamic world to unite behind them by calling this a war against Islam. By showing respect for the Islamic day of Friday, a message is being communicated. It also is a way of saying "we're in control here."

Ok so if we are bombing the terrorists, who cares what religion they are? Why stop?

Have you forgotten that the government and the nation that we are also attacking is an Islamic one? Sure, we're trying to bomb the terrorists, but they happen to be living in the middle of a country.

i don't think it has anything to do with religion...we bombed the hell out of them...now we asses the damage and figure out our next move. in the meanwhile, they consider giving up bin laden. we throw in the "we respect the day of prayer" thing to make us look a little better...maybe take the heat off of the notion that this is a 'holy war' by respecting their religion...or at least saying it's one of our motives for taking a break

my opinion is that this is a strategy move on our part...we're just determining the next move.

i think we're running out of targets.....
no sense in dropping a 500 mil bomb to destroy a training camp where 20 kids are being trained...

just my $.02

We need the time to find targets for our bombs. What's the point of dropping bombs on an empty abandoned building?
