Hey, need some recommendations on a good adapter since I blew out the fuse on the last one. I have these gadgets to plug in: radar detector, gps and laptop. Maybe something to charge up the cell phone as well, but that's just extra :)
Anyways, the big one would be the laptop, which draws about 15amps. I haven't seen any fuse rated higher than 15amps (for plugging into the adapter and not directly to the battery). Is there one out there?

Maybe you should consider an alternate power supply. Maybe an extra battery to run an AC/DC convertor off of? In the long run it's a lot of drain on a car battery.

I don't know a whole bunch about cars, but the battery is basically only used to start the engine. Once that's started, the alternator provides all electrical power, including power to charge the batteries back up. I can believe that using more power means it will take the battery longer to charge back up, but there are a ton of people high-powered speakers, which is more drain than what I'm talking about here. I would think that taking short drives would drain the battery a lot more than plugging in a laptop for a trip. Am I missing some important information here?

If it's a later model car, the alternator is probably at least an 80 amp unit. It should put out 25-30 amps at idle. If you are only drawing 15 amps and you're leaving the car running, you should have no problem whatsoever.
