I got this idea from Brewmaster's thread. I am sure someone has done this topic before, but oh well here it goes.

If you could have any job in the world what would it be?

Mine would be a singer...like Celine Dion, that type of music.
But realistically, I want to be a database administrator for the government <--- job security :heh:

That is totally my dream job. I worship the Zagats. That is what they get to do all the time and get paid for it. As for if the food is crappy, you write a bad review. You don't have to eat the whole thing.

I would like to be a full-time, space traveler. Want to be the first to step on mars (or die on the way there)

Very similar to my dream job. I would like to be an astronaut, however I wouldn't want to spend all of my time in space. I would go on journeys, like to the moon and back all the time, and probably to Mars as well, but between journeys I think I would enjoy lots of downtime spent here on Earth.

I'll have to think about mine, but my brother-in-law has a cool one.

He is in the army and his job is testing new products that the military is thinking of buying (or that companies want to sell the military). Just last week, he spent 2 days in a virtual reality room.

Damn!
lol

There's a couple:

-What my father apparently does: sit on his bum, fart around with his massive portfolio, go to coffee like 4 times a day with his high school buddies, and play an executive VP at Sysco on TV. It's bizarre. I'll call and he never seems to be actually working.

-Children's book writer.

-General manager of a well-financed NFL or NBA team. Then again, I get the sense I'd end up like the guy in Portland: all All-Stars, no team chemistry.

-Music agent.

I've got a couple:

-Owner/CEO/Art Director of my own design firm.

-Movie Director.

Ya my dad does that kind of stuff to. But he owns his own investment firm. He watches sports on his massive entertainment center. Takes cruises with my mom. Get's into these weird hobbies where he spends lots of money on one thing and then soon loses interest in it. It seems like he only does about 3-4 hours of real work a week. Otherwise his biggest concern is where they should go out to eat.

This is gonna sound really dorky, but I'd just like to be a FULLY FUNDED research chemist so I can play around in the lab but not have to worry about getting money from foundations or groveling like a two-bit whore to the NSF for a few extra bucks (that's what my Prof does here at UCLA to fund my research). I'm close now, but I have to show my prof results or he gets ancy.

I guess an even better dream job would be a travel spot reviewer for a fancy travel magazine. You just get to go all over the world and write about the cool places that they sent you to (all expenses paid). That would be fun. Gotta go do some research on that one....

novelist. wouldn't need to make a lot of money or be real famous. but if i could support myself and my kid in a modest-to-impoverished existence by pumping out a novel every 12 to 18 months, that would make my life complete.

Do nothing is boring, it is nice to do something that you really like, do something useful for yourself and hopefully others, and get paid for it.

Ok for me I am living one of my dream jobs. I never liked computers before but now it is fun as heck. I get the latest hardware before it is available to the public. I get to design future products for companies and play with prototypes , I get to inform the public of some of the great and not so great hardware out there. And I get paid :-)

But my real calling is writing psychological fiction. I will have my work published soon, but I need to pay the bills now.

Lastly my hopeful career will be a psychologist working in institutions to help those very mentally ill. And writing my novels on the side.

Actually, its not as bad as you'd think. The draw back is that unless you are successful, it is a very specialized field to get into. I did illustrations for this lady that started a line of children's greeting cards. That was a freelance thing though, doesn't exactly pay the bills if you know what I mean.

Write travel articles and get paid to travel...
write reviews on high performance vehicles and have them "lent" to me for extended periods of time in order for me to evaluate them properly... (I'm sorry, I've only had the Viper for a month, I don't really have a "feel" for it yet- can I keep it another 6 weeks?)
write culinary reviews, be a movie critic, a music critic, a book critic, a fashion critic...

basically, have my entire life be a giant business expense and/or tax write-off. :)

Actually I'm not. Yeah, enlisted pay is pretty much a joke, but starting pay for a 2nd Lt. is about 30K, and after twenty years as an officer it's likely to make about 60K maybe even 70K. And pension would get you get half of your last pay rate anyways.

Compared to corporate life that's nothing, but do you know what most pastors I know make? It's a miracle in itself that they make ends meet.

This is how I figured it, here (http://www.dfas.mil/money/milpay/pay/07-2001.pdf)
